Stopped by TEA I Y for an interesting dessert experience after some dinner in the area. Cute concept of DIY drinks and assemble yourself desserts in a lab setting. Each seat on the tables are equipped with magnetic stirrers for you to mix your drinks. Seating is all on high chairs with a small hook on the counters for you belongings. I ordered the diversetea which is basically two test tube racks of milk tea samplers from different countries. This was a highly intriguing concept and it was interesting to taste the different styles of milk tea. I also ordered the research and procedure which were the desserts. The research was a chocolate cake with some warm chocolate that you can pour over and top with a mixture of nuts. The procedure was a plate of chips that you can too with some cream cheese and graham cracker crumbs. The desserts were cute to assemble but did not taste too special. Overall the price was a little steep if you're just coming for the food. However, if you're curious, definitely come for the experience and friendly staff.
Nice place where you can scientifically mix your own sweet tea! I enjoyed using the butterfly pea as a topping, which turned my jasmin-mango tea a nice shade of blue/purple. It was gorgeous. Also the tea was the perfect amount of sweet. The people working there are kind and helpful. It was a great experience with a great drink.
My friend wanted to come to this place for the longest. A very unique experience! If you failed chem they won’t judge you the service is A1 We ordered a variety of milk teas along with our individual ones. Definitely coming back
Loved the experimenting part, fun to do it with friends. Tea was really fragrant and good, but couldn't taste the other flavor. Though I think it was overpriced esp. the dessert.
Absolutely amazing concoctions and delectable sweets. Definitely recommend if you're into chemistea.
I ordered a nuclear fission and liked it a lot. You really taste the passion fruit. The research cake was chocolatey but not too much. The procedure is a deconstructed cheesecake, with the cookie chips that you add your cream cheese frosting to reminding me of cinnamon toast crunch. It's a fun concept of mixing your own teas and desserts. I honestly enjoyed my time there.
Tea I Y just open like a couple months ago. I tried their tea 2 times already, wondering if they're scientist, who came up with this idea. The target audience is mainly young generation. Many people looked into their store and could confuse by exactly they are selling for especially this is a Asian demography location. Most people are around 22-58/yo in Chinatown and people who will dine there normally averages from 15-25/yo. They do have pretty nice tea, you get to experiment with the Tea instead of chemical. For new customers, the instruction is pretty hard to understand and some people don't really know what's going on unless a staff preforms task for them which kills the fun of it. They have 2-3 staff sometime more, one in front and a couple preparing materials. The whole business model is not very ideal simply because it only targets the younger generation with $8-$15 to spare on a single Tea. Really not a place to drink tea but a place to experience something new. In terms of pricing, its pretty expensive, I know there is a tea that cost $15 with tax on the menu when YaYa Tea is like right next to them. In terms of returning customer, maybe some but not a lot of people will return unless they wanted to show their friends or something. Overall, staffs are very nice but the pricing is really unreasonable, decreasing the sales a lot. Its a great place to see something new but not a place to come back often
My girlfriend and I came to the grand opening. The concept is amazing. You sit at lab table style counters with magnetic spinners for your tea and play around with the amount of syrup. However the execution is very poor. There is not enough room for the sux trays they try to fit on one bench and bags. The small A.C can't counter the brewing and crowds. As for the food, the descriptions are vague and the instruction sheet is not provided until after the tea is dropped. There is not enough staff to handle the orders, seating and explaining how to do things. They use table numbers that are obstructed by those seated so hot tea is carried around in a desperate search for guests. I hope that after I can return and improve the rating. Definitely wait a week to let them get their sea legs.
Fantastic concept. My husband went the make his own route and I had the flight of milk teas. We both loved our teas and the whole experience. We will be back with our daughter.
The most creative team spot in Chinatown!! So cool, would be great for a science club outing or something!! Staff is so nice and helpful--they deserve a feature on insider, I swear. Such a cool place, 100/10 would visit again!!
