Tennessee Department Of Human Services needs a crash course in Economics.There are several factors that should be considered in order to get Food Stamps. Income,How many in the household and the cost of living. The cost of living is high and the American dollar does not go as far as it did 10, 20 even 30 years ago so for example if 300 dollars for a family of 3 lasted entire month back in lets say 1995 which was 22 years ago and fast forward to the present nothing has changed still a family of three still 300 dollars a month but now 300 dollars that once lasted a month you will be lucky if it lasts 3 weeks. Your buying food to eat the same amount as always but now the 300 you have does not go far. A gallon of milk that once was 2.50 is now 3.50 a gallon or that loaf of bread you always bought for 1.00 dollar that same loaf is now 2.00 dollars. This is why people ask for raises on their job not because they are greedy it is to keep up with the cost of living so they can support themselves and their families. So if enough money is not made the person has no choice but to get public assistance. Public Assistance needs to go by your net income because that is what you live off of not your gross. You pay your bills and live off your net income not your gross. So if a man who has a family of 5 only brings home 300 dollars a week out of a 500 dollar check because of lets say taxes and child support from a previous relationship than he will need help. Poverty level for a family of 5 is little over 36,000 and a family of 4 it is a little over 41,000 dollars. Food Stamps are to help thoses that cannot meet or unable to maintain a certain level of income to support themselves and their families based off there current financial situation.
