I have been a Foundation Department adjunct instructor at the Art Institute of Portland for 17 years, and I just love teaching here.
The students are really focused, talented, delightful and hard-working. The faculty all get along! Additionally, I love teaching within a close-knit, design-based environment.
Is the school itself perfect? No school is. Is it a challenging academically? By all means.
(Note: I wrote this review of my own accord.)

Under staffed. Our programs get budget cuts leaving us inadequate faculty. Norton is over whelmed and is of no help to anybody. And Sue doesn't show up to her tutor hours and decided that she doesn't like to repeat herself in class. She won't go over a demo more then once even though people and dress forms are blocking students views. Think twice before coming to an increasingly under funded campus.

When I started, one of the near-graduation courses required for my major had just started, and I was placed in this without having this explained to me. The result was trying to struggle through a 300 level class without the 100 or 200 level classes that should have come before it. I barely passed the class, and opted to wait for the other classes before going back to it.
The catch? The 100 level classes had started their three-quarter 'tour' the same quarter, and I hadn't been put into it. I ended up spending more time trying to get the classes I needed in the order they were supposed to be taken.
Fast forward to graduation. I barely remember it. I just remember being miserable and feeling like I'd wasted my money. The job placement counselor was confident he could find me work, but I only got maybe three job leads from them in the entire six month period before they cut you loose.
I ended up working for $11/hour in a job that had nothing to do with my degree. Loan payments on my tuition are so high that I couldn't pay taxes the first year out of college. After six years of struggling to get out from under the mistake that was going to the Art Institute, I've managed to finally get my loan payments down to only three times what my rent is.
My advice? Spend $14,000 a year at Henry's Tavern next door. It's a better deal. At least then you'll have something to eat.

I graduated over a year ago and still haven't received my diploma. Ive emailed them multiple times with no response. If you're thinking about going here I highly advise you to go anywhere else. State schools are a fraction of what this place will charge you and they will actually mail you a diploma.
