Lots of greats drinks and food! They have German and Belgian imported beers, my friends think it's worth the drive from LA to get them. The duck fat fries are really amazing, the dipping sauces are on another level, so good. Service was awesome. The servers were very kind and food/drinks came out very quick.
I just took my wife out to The Back Abbey the other night and it was great! For starters, the service was on point! From the host that sat us, all the way through to getting the check. They were attentive, and friendly. I love Belgian beers and I was stoked that they had Delirium. My wife got a margarita and she said it was great as well. The food was super tasty. We got the Back Abbey & Backyard Burgers. They had a ton of flavor and came out quickly. It’s usually super busy, so be prepared to wait or get there early to put your name in!
I have been at this restaurant once! It was in the beginning of December, 2021. The meal, that I have ordered was quite delicious. Furthermore, at the time, for a Friday evening, there was ample of space to sit down. They have, also, a good selection of beers. At the same time, they hired good bartenders. These bartenders are capable of making good cocktails. Of course, since the service is of top notch quality, the prices are on the expensive side. Nevertheless, I did not regret visiting this establishment. I will definitely visit this place again, when I have some disposable cash.
Fun little spot to visit outside of the core Claremont Village. As you'd expect, there is a great selection of Belgian beers, both on tap and in bottles. The food choices are pretty decent. We were pleased to find mussels. The sauce was delicious; it would have been great to have more bread to soak up the deliciousness. I'd add a star if they could provide better descriptions of the brews the servers weren't too helpful and seemed overwhelmed and carried some lower ABV choices. All said, we would go back to hang out in this back alley patio. Parking: Easy parking on the streets or the nearby free parking structure.
First time visiting...tried the BBQ chicken sandwich and side salad...very tasty. The pretzel bun and jalapeño poppers added a good taste. I need to come back and try other menu items including some tap beer. Would I recommend? Yes
One of my favorites! Been here many times the past few years. This review is overdue. I am Never disappointed when I come. Although, it can get packed here, it's worth the wait. Excellent place to grab delicious entrees, snacks, brew and spirits. Food here is so delicious, and the selection of drinks is amazing. My favorites are the brats, schnitzels, beignets, and the martini espresso! Their seasonal menus are great too. My S/O loved the hot totty, and the burgers.
Dog friendly patio and friendly service. Clean, nice ambiance. I got the fish and chips and it was so fresh and tender and delicious Subtracted one star because they seemed understaffed and they took a while to take our order. We had a party of four, and there was at least 10 mins between each person served, so one of us got our plate 30 mins after the first plate. The appetizers came out last. Very odd.
Only 4 stars because of the service. Our server was very nice and helpful. Answered all of our questions and gave pretty good recommendations. I had a whiskey sour and I thought it was incredible. I'm not a whiskey drinker but I really enjoyed their whiskey sour. My friend had their Spencer IPA. Which was really good. You can taste the hops but not in a bitter way. As for food, we ordered the Crab Cakes as an appetizer. They're were really delicious and had a great balance of flavors. My friend had they're burger. Which was really good and I had the Steak Frittes medium rare. My entree wasn't the best it was okay. They definitely overcooked the steak and was very under seasoned. I definitely would not recommend the steak and fries.
This is still my favorite pub. I love that they have the correct glassware for each beer, usually labeled with the brewery and beer name. I'm not normally the type to care, but it does make a difference in the aroma and head of the beer. Particularly with the delicate euro beers the specialize in. It's a little detail, but it elevates the experience. The draft beer selection does slowly change over time. But there's always something interesting to try. This is a great place to sit and relax while the kids take an art class at the nearby Studio Clairemont. I have fond memories of playing cards with my family with some duck fat fries and a charcuterie board while a kid was in class. I like the redesigned patio. It's not as comfortable and homey as before, but the new sun shade is a welcome addition. The menu is a bit more expensive than I remember, but that to be expected during pandemic recovery.
Really nice little spot in Claremont. As the name implies, it's in the back. I drove past it as it is tucked away a little. It's a little upscale pub. So everything is going to have a more fancy take. This includes the alcohol, dont expect to get Budweiser or Coors for beer. Also dont expect your more brand name spirits here. That being said it is all very good. They have so have seasonal meals as well. So the menu will be a little different, which is a nice change of pace. They do have a lot of standard menu items they have year round. We split a BBQ Chicken sandwich with a salad. The sause had a little bite and the chicken was very juicy. They only had 2 desserts; beignets and the seasonal Cheese cake. We got the beignets and they we very good. They come with some fresh fruit on the sides. Overall it was a really nice place and we will go back.
