From Canada and I have to say, I am so envious that DC has a place like this. We went here for Sunday brunch and easily spent a few hours. The music is great, food was wonderful and the staff was really nice especially the male host with glasses ; . The only thing I found weird was when I asked the waiter guy with long dreads for coffee it was brunch he said they didn’t have coffee and when I asked why- he replied: this is a black owned business. I found that a little odd. Maybe black people in DC don’t drink coffee but we certainly do in Canada! Love the small menu as it seems they have mastered each recipe.
Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good music. Enjoyed Brunch! Food was presented very well and delicious. jerk steak & eggs with cajun potatoes was delightful. Here's also a view Shrimp & Grits.
We ordered the French Toast w/ a side of potatoes and bacon, Shrimp and Grits, and a Waffle. Everything was INCREDIBLE! I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.
New happy hour, brunch and late night spot near Dupont Circle! The Caged Bird has amazingly talented and friendly staff, the bartenders Ashley and Doug were oh so engaging and came up with tribute drinks to honor the life of Aretha Franklin on the fly, not to mention a local IPA offering from Upper Marlboro MD- Sankofa Hypebiscus! And the food! We got a spread of happy hour specials that were mouthwatering and soulful! Please get the mac and cheese, sliders, collards, wings, because it's not your usual "bar" food! We will be back as we have found our new local go-to happy hour, brunch and late late night spot in DC!
Excellent customer service and food! I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was worth every penny.
I came for a solo Sunday brunch and sat at the bar. The music selection was amazing. Food was delicious. I had the fish and grits salmon and bottomless mimosas. Customer service was exquisite. They really made me feel like I was hanging out with friends— We even played Uno with gigantic cards! Would definitely go back.
I've been here twice and it's a dope vibe. Hip hop and R&B music. I like the brunch-- it's reasonable and delicious. My friends and I got different plates and we were satisfied with our choices. Food at other times than happy hour or brunch can be overpriced $13 for less than 10 wings, but the food is still good. The drinks are well made. Servers and bartenders are really cool people. I'll definitely be returning.
The Caged Bird is a black owned establishment that you must visit in DuPont Circle! The customer service is impeccable and the food is so delicious. I tried the Shrimp and Grits with the Cranberry Mimosa and I was pleasantly surprised. It was so good! The mimosas are bottomless if you can handle it or you can order by the glass. The location is great for solo dining, a date or groups! Maxwell and Raashid B. were my bartenders and hosts they were great at keeping the conversation going and providing service. My glass was always full and my food came out hot and fresh. The hostess seated me immediately. I’d give this restaurant and experience 5 stars and tell others to come visit! You won’t be disappointed. As an added bonus I really liked the background music and the vibe of the place. Very relaxed and chill. A great experience overall!
The caged bird is a great place to eat. Went there for brunch and the food was amazing, the vibe and environment was right on point with what I was looking for. Jeff made the environment very comfortable, and the hostess was delightful and sociable. I had the chicken and waffles and my lady had the shrimp and grits. We both loved our meals, we also received complementary shots, that were delicious. There was nothing I didn’t like about the caged bird. I’d recommend to all my friends.
Shout out to our Server Doug he was great made sure we were definitely getting bottomless mimosas by filling our glass and pitcher every couple of minutes. The chicken and waffles were to die for and be prepared if you get the jerk steak and eggs because that kick is something serious. Great music and great customer service I cannot wait to return
