Great neighborhood store with friendly staff. Huge craft beer selection and they'll order special requests for you. Well priced selection of decent wine was well. Shop here - avoid the 7/11 and seedy liquor Mart down the street.
Sweet little neighborhood store. Lovely attendants who are always willing to help out. You definitely can't find all your needs here—but that's because it is a small store! You will find a good variety of craft beer and wine plus several staples covered if you need a box of pasta or piece of cheese or pint of ice cream. Also a little deli inside, though I haven't gotten anything from it. There is a Capital Bikeshare rack right outside and a Chinese restaurant next door. Glad to have it so close to home.
The Cupboard is a great local bodega. It's family run & you can always count on a friendly face/ conversation. There's now, a small deli in back where sandwiches & salads are prepared but you can also purchase the regular items, plus some groceries & things for the home. There's a huge beer selection, snacks, veggies and such. It's a little pricey, as they all are, but it is great for quick fill in purchases in between shopping day or for a sneaky snack! They even sell K-cups! Saved the day for me the other morning! Carlos & family are awesome!
I was optimistic when they opened, but the place suffers from mismanagement. The place is frequently dirty, and their inventory is of food items is sporadic. But the thing that really irks me is that they refuse to put price labels on any of their items. It's obnoxious to assume your customers will buy anything without asking about the price first. Especially with a pricy beer selection and organic items that are overpriced, even for a convenience store. Sorry to say it, but I usually walk an extra two blocks to SE Market or 7-11.
I'm glad Capitol Hill East has a local supermarket and it looks pretty cool from the outside My wife loves the sign!. The only time I went was to get milk and it was sour. When I returned it, the store manager was super nice and let me open literally 8 more half gallons before one was not spoiled.
Glad the Cupboard is here. It's super convenient even if they don't have the best selection for every item. The organic, local milk is pricey - but it's better than not having any this close. They always have chips, onions, potatoes, lemons and limes, ice cream, a range of cheeses - and La Croix! Now that Unsafeway is closed - I appreciate the Cupboard even more.
Today was the second time I’ve grabbed whole milk for the kiddos here and discovered it was spoiled despite the date being in future. Literally chunky as I poured it into a glass 15 mins after purchase. Bleh. I’m sure they’ll take it back, but that doesn’t solve our immediate lack of milk :-/ I’m not sure if they are following best practices for keeping things cold or if south mountain creamery is dropping the ball...but beware!
Decent shop, the owner is.a pretty nice guy. Inventory is 80% junk food and booze - nothing wrong with that though.
They sell hot food & also sell items that you would expect to see in a corner store. Gave them 3 stars because their inventory is a bit lacking
Great beer selection and a wide range of items for anyone in the area who doesn't have enough time to run to the grocery store
