This place has been on the Hill FOREVER!!! The people are NICE in there! And, whenever you go, they are ALWAYS willing to be helpful. The prices are fine. It's really an old-school DC booze shop and I think the customer service is the reason it's still there. One time they had this cool bottle of tequila in the window and I asked about it. It was to be a gift for a friend, and it was shaped like a Mexican man with a sombrero. But when the man checked, he said it was the last bottle of it he had. It was cool looking and sort of added to the display in the window too but since I liked it, he sold it to me anyway. That is good customer service
Surrounded by restaurants, bars, and other liquor shops along Barracks Row, Chat's Liquors is a no-frills, small shop with kind service and a good selection of wine, beer and other alcohol. I usually go in for the chilled white wines in the back.
I don’t go to liquor stores very often, but was pleasantly surprised when I decided to pop in here for some red wine. Hands down the most pleasant experience I’ve had in a liquor store, everyone was very friendly, honest, and when I asked for a specific type of wine at a low price point it was two seconds to find it, no judgement. I haven’t tasted the wine yet but at this point it could be terrible and I wouldn’t mind—although it was guaranteed I’ll be back for more so I’m looking forward to my glass tonight : thanks!
I try to support black businesses as much as I can. That's why searched for a black owned liquor store to buy my Christmas presents. I ordered and paid online after searching though lots of Out of Stock items. Their website said that my order would be ready at 10:10 am. I made the 45 minute drive from Howard County. I arrived at about 12:25 pm. The store was closed and I wasn't even sure it was still in business because it badly needs a coat of paint and some sprucing up. Luckily there was another customer knocking on the door and I guess he got someone's attention because they turned the "Open" sign on and opened the door. I called to say I was outside waiting. The employee told me that they didn't have what I ordered. WHAT???? I then said I would go inside to pick up my order. I went inside and the employee was literally just starting my order. I had to choose several different items and 2 of my items were covered in dust. Then it took a LONG time for the employee to refund me for one item that I could not find a substitute for. She actually she would leave a note for the owner so that he could refund me when he got there! No thank you. I wanted my refund issued while I was there. There were other customers waiting and I kept apologizing to them for the wait. I ordered online so I would not have to wait and I ended up waiting and causing others to wait. I did not leave until 1:20 pm! That said... I would support this business again. Only because it is a black owned business. But, to the owners... You need to do better.
Friendly staff. They do wine and liquor tasting every week. Good prices. Decent liquor collection- can be expanded more though. Would be great if they can expand their cigars collection too. I recommend buying from there if you live in the Capitol Hill/Eastern Market area.
My go to store for wine and spirits and sometimes just to say hello to Burnie and Ana. Best small production wines that can't be found in big stores. Wonderful tastings and Burnie is incredibly knowledgeable about wine and liquor and will always take time to answer questions and make suggestions. Chats is one of the best things about my neighborhood.
Absolutely outstanding liquor store! The owner and staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, great selection of wine and liquor, and great weekly tastings!
Excellent Liquor store. The owner is a great guy. Try this coffee moonshine liquor. He is the only one that stocks it. I had to fly from California to DC just to get it. Well worth the trip. PS I was in DC for business.
My favourite liquor store in the US so far... Unassuming façade, but quite a large and carefully curated selection inside. Burnie clearly knows his stuff, and we had a great time chatting with him about all things alcohol and sharing stories. Great prices, too. Highly recommended.
Incredible options for wine and liquor. Not a huge beer selection but this place is a must for the neighborhood.
