About The Ginger Man

The Ginger Man, named after the outrageous novel by J.P. Donleavy, began its journey in 1985 in an old house in Houston, Texas. This original creation, believed by many to be the first multi-tap bar in America, was hailed by the late British beer guru, Michael Jackson, as one of the finest beer bars in the world. It was to be followed by The Ginger Man bars in Dallas and Austin and, in 1996, what was to become one of New York’s most popular bars, year after year, opened on a grand scale. While its many loyal fans say that it’s more than the sum of its parts, the parts, especially the seventy taps dispensing fresh ales and lagers, backed up by 160 bottles, are pretty impressive. Join us for a beer!

They have a great selection of craft beer. Erick, the waiter was very very knowledgeable of the types of craft beer. They had IPAs, sours, stouts and more. Their food was great. Shrimp salad was fresh and their prosciutto, socolitto and VT cheese with the apples, walnuts, spicy raisins and fresh bread were delectable. Definitely coming back
Great beer menu including some hard to find Belgians and Vermont beers on draft the day we were there...fairly basic but solid and tasty food menu. Very chill and released atmosphere - I could have stayed all day. Excellent service.
It's an average bar. There are no TVs so it's nice not to have sports playing everywhere. I'm rating it 3 stars because it was an average bar. Nothing wrong with it but nothing special. Nice if you are in the area but not worth a special trip itself. The staff was friendly. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
Very well lived-in New York bar with an incredible beer selection. The sort of very, very long bar you find at the best NYC institutions with lots of floor space to mingle for the after work crowd. Would absolutely return.
I love visiting my home town. Walking around Manhattan I got the urge for some hard cider. I did some googling and found the Ginger Man. Not the best cider selection Brooklyn Cider House and Bad Seed are better, but I enjoyed the atmosphere and the selection they had. The bartender thanks Natalie! was sweet and fun to talk to and the clientele was cool. I'll definitely come back when I'm in midtown ... And thirsty
Bar was nice. However, we came with the intention of trying different beers but bartender showed no interest in discussing any of the beers we asked about. Also poured a really big head for one beer and an appropriately sized head on another, both in tulip glasses. Lots of beers available though.
Went in here because i am a ginger man and while I didnt expect a free drink for this, I did think I would get treated at least like a human being. Waitress was extremely rude which put a downer on the excellent range of beers, cheese was probably better than I thought at the time as well. I finished with a sour beer but I don't think the waitress got the joke. Just an overall shame.
Daily beer menu printed on recycled paper. Great service and beers. Went on a Tuesday night around 10pm. Excellent atmosphere. Bar full but helped promptly. Vicki behind the bar was nice.
This a a great bar! Over 70 beers on tap with many of them being NY micro brews. The service was great, the atmosphere was great and the beers were great. Definitely worth a stop of you are nearby!
If you are looking for a great beer selection this place has it. The bartender really knew his product and the cask ale alone is worth the visit. I should add it's a nice quiet atmosphere tucked away in a busy city.
