We also had very courteous staff and salespeople. However the process took from October 2017 to May 2018 before our small manufactured home was delivered to the site. Some of that delay was undoubtedly delays at the factory where our Palm Harbor was assembled. During this period it was difficult to get clear communication about what was happening and why there were so many delays. Once set up was done, Home Boys tended to the inside issues that may have arisen during the 7 hour trip to deliver our home. Fortunately there were no big problems but they have not started up the gas furnace. Stove and water heater (also gas) were connected with no problem. After a couple weeks of reminder phone calls to them proved fruitless, I finally received a text from them that said “they don’t do gas” and offered to send me some names of companies that do. I think the main reason I’m giving them only 2stars is because of the lack of any clear, consistent communication.

Very helpful. I think they know what they are doing. Price may be a bit high. Still they seem to know exactly what to do to make it all happen and run smoothly.

Went in to talk about the homes they had with basements, some guy who should not be the first person you see when making a home purchess, sitting at a computer with smokes in his pocket. Asks how can i help you, Told him what we where looking for he laughed and said good luck you wont get it done with us. All we asked was what homes do you offer with a basement. Then tried to hand us a keybto look at the homes.. we will take our business elsewhere.

Our experience was bittersweet. On the positive side, the owners, staff, and crew were always very courteous. Most appeared genuinely interested in making us happy. And our home is awesome. We were able to customize the floor plan exactly how we wanted it. The home is very good quality. So, when all was said and done, we were very happy.
However, we had a lot to complain about during the process. We first started shopping for a home in August of 2015. We placed our order in October 2016 and moved into our house Memorial Day 2017, nearly 8 months after ordering it! We were told we'd be in by Christmas 2016. Boy, did they fall short!
There were numerous delays and challenges all along the way. According to my records, delays and broken promises from Home Boys directly resulted in over $6,500 out-of-pocket costs for us.
Every entity played a part in the numerous delays: me, the weather, our lender, appraiser, the general contractor, manufacturing plant, and Home Boys. I found it interesting that the lender, contractor, and manufacturing plant all owned up to their roles in the delays. In fact, all proactively compensated us in some way even when we did not ask for anything. But HB blames their mistakes on others.
Shortly after the home was installed, I emailed my records to Home Boys. I received a call from one of the owners who asked me about my experience. I told him that the home is perfect and his support staff and labor crews were all amazing, but that I still hold reservations about the ownership and sales staff. He denied having any role in the delays, that all of it was due to weather. I reminded him that his co-owner had promised to deliver our home on March 1, 2017 as long as I had the accumulated snow removed from our property by February 24, 2017.
As I reminded him, I hired a contractor to excavate snow off our land. The contractor and I met with a Home Boys representative on the property on February 24, 2017 and strategized where the excess snow would be moved to. The snow was removed that day. The Home Boys representative confirmed that our home was scheduled for delivery on March 1, 2017. It cost me over $1,500 to have that snow removed. On March 1, 2017, the contractor was on hand for the delivery in case there were any extra challenges. Home Boys did not deliver my home, nor did they call and let me know that they didn’t plan to show up. The contractor and I were both left waiting and wondering. I had to call Home Boys to find out what happened. Then they told me there were two delays: their delivery truck had broken down in Oregon and they had moved another customer ahead of us. By the time they delivered our home weeks later, all of the snow had melted, and I felt like I had waisted $1,500. I could give several other examples of delays and added costs directly attributable to Home Boys.
In the aforementioned conversation with the owner, he offered to buy my wife and I dinner and movies to show gratitude for our business, the total value of which amounted to about $200. His gesture felt pretty weak considering how much extra this process cost us.
Lastly, I have researched the various online reviews of Home Boys. I found it interesting to see several reviews written by staff or family. On one review site, it appears that every poor review is immediately followed up with a positive review written by someone in-house. Home Boys’ owners' father, Steven Randock Sr., had spent time in prison for illegal business practices. As nice as the owners are, it’s easy to speculate negative things about their business ethics given the example their father set.
I rated Home Boys 3 stars because they have amazing support staff and everyone was courteous. Even though HB never admitted playing any part in the delays, and even though they broke many promises, I enjoyed being around them. Lastly, in spite of the delays and broken promises, they did get us a perfect home.
