The positive first: The Lake House is a beautiful venue and quite lovely for a late spring wedding.
The negative: very poor customer service, ghost fees and made-up agreements.
My husband and I reserved the Lake House in July 2016 for our ceremony in Jan 2017 (later changed to April 2017). 100 guest total, no bar access at all because hubby doesn't drink nor did most of our guest, boat ride away from the ceremony to change off site, boat ride back to reception-all day rental of venue. We also had a wedding planner to make sure that everything went according to our agreement. After requesting and receiving two updated balance statements after we made payments (In September 2016 and in November 2016), we received another balance statement in March 2017 at our tasting that was more than $200 higher. They added gratuity that they claim they forgot to include-not our problem especially after receiving two statements prior. We met with the manager the following week that further explained that they forgot to charge the gratuity, that the boat ride was actually higher than what was quoted to us and he had no idea about leaving by boat to change and return to venue. We worked through this first issue and moved forward. Then the day of the wedding while my MUA worked on my face and bridal party helped me get ready, they send my wedding planner in to ask me again about the bar! I told her we did not want a bar and that had been decided. They pressured her to ask me again and I told her to go ask my husband and whatever he said that would be fine because i did not want to be interrupted anymore. So there was $150 charge for a bartender who so happen to be there for a cash bar. After we finally got through the ceremony and the day was behind us, I get a text message from my wedding planner two days later while we are on the road to our new home. The planner said that Ricky (Manager) had informed Zandra (staff) that he had had an conversation with us about using extra chairs for ceremony and the reception. That we had confirmed 80 chairs for the ceremony and an addtional 80 for the reception. Our rental only included 100 therefore it would be a charge for the extra chairs. Ricky also attempted to charge us for linen that was used on one table that was provided by our planner, not Top It Off. We did not use any decor from Top it Off, all provided by Planner. The chair conversation never happened with anyone and the planner had to stop him from charging us for her linen! I sent an email requesting a meeting about the non existent chair conversation. Ricky responded that he wasnt avaiable to meet on the day I would be in town and that my planner had asked for the chairs but that he would not charge us. Our planner never asked for the chairs-he just threw her under the bus to avoid confronting his lie. My advice: communicate through email only to establish a record of responses, make sure your agreement/contract that you sign is all one document and each page is signed or initialed, keep all receipts. There was no follow up on meetings, tasting, confirmation of final guest count (ours was 80) This is just a snippet of what we went through.
