Lance has always been very helpful with his expertise on various fishing equipment and fishing areas. He has an excellently supply of local flies and tackle. He is familiar with local rivers and lakes. We have been relying on his helpful information for the past 5 years for our I annual fishing trips to the Methow Valley area. He definitely is our "GO TO GUY" If you want to have the best fishing experiences I would suggest a visit to Lance at "The Outdoorsman " Rosemary and Richard Deane Port Angeles, Washington

Great sporting goods store in Winthrop. Has a good selection of fishing flies and is in touch with what is catching fish. Always has quality seasonal outdoor gear. This is a shop for the serious outdoorsman. Winthrop has a good flow of tourists and this is a good shop for information on what the locals are using. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable.

Could write same review as Josh A as exact same thing happened today. Guy working seemed bothered by questions. When I asked if I could ask him a question his response was literally "only if I don't have something else to do." It was not meant to be funny. Gave a bare bones answer to a question about where to fish "the river is open from here to X bridge". Asked about flies and was told to "try the stimulators". For the non fisherman that's about as helpful as asking what is recommended at a restaurant and being told to try the food. Then scolded me for touching the flies, made a snide comment under his breath doing so. In his defense there were little file cards telling you to use tweezers, but they were mixed in with file cards all over the store saying "no ice cream" "no large dogs" "children can't touch flies" and many more so we must have missed that one. Plus every other fly shop in existence doesn't mind if you touch the flies you are trying to buy. I was going to buy an expensive net there but will not give another $ to the place. Bought the flies we apparently contaminated and left. Fly fishing does not need these kind of people, sport needs encouragement and inclusion to get more involved, especially kids. Guy has wrong demeanor to own a store in a family tourist destination.

Lance does a great job and is a perfect fit for our area and community. He has up to date information and a working selection of what you need.

The clerk was very strange and standoffish... went in to purchase a new fly line and he wouldn't respool the line because he thought he might get busy. No one was in there. He also kept accusing me of fishing illegally in the area ( I was passing through) and to not mention that I bought flies from his shop. I would recommend getting your gear somewhere else if you have the option. It's really a shame how lazy some people are.
