DIY venues like The Sanctuary are vital to heavy/aggressive music, and in Detroit, they seem to be in short supply. It's venues like The Sanctuary that foster the community aspect of music. That said, every hardcore show I've been to there has been killer, and I hope they keep it up.

Pretty cool little spot, although the place is basically held together by Saran wrap and duct tape. I've been there twice now to see Pancho Villa's Skull play. It's easy to get to, and they have a private fenced in area to smoke, with limited street-only parking. No bar or anything, so you'll have to BYO or go down the block to the gas station.

The home of the ever-evolving DIY music scene in Detroit. Run professionaly and responsibly. The best mid-sized venue in Detroit (capacity is about 220). Best venue I have ever booked at, period. Featuring a wide variety of punk, hardcore, metal, ska, and many more of the progressive genres of Detroit. BYOB, drinking inside and smoking outside. A venue that is truly for the people, not for the profit of a bar.
