One of my favorite coffee shops in DC. I like this location a lot more than the one on 14th street because it’s not as busy and there’s normally seating available. The cold brew is very smooth and tastes great. Highly recommend trying the Cherry Almond Scone. It’s to die for! When you’re comparing the pastries and drinks here to some of the other places nearby, Wydown is a bit cheaper. Both a scone and cold brew was less than $8. Terrible parking in the area. I don’t recommend driving. Walk!
Lovely indoor and outdoor setting? Check. Solid coffees and mochas? Check. A good variety of breakfast savories like salmon bowls, sausage and egg biscuit sandwiches, and avocado toast? Check. All of this making the H St Wydown repeatable? You bet! Ok to be fair not everything was 5 stars. The avocado toast is not $13.50 good especially when compared with other avocado toasts you can get across town. And the sausage and egg biscuit sandwich, though tasty, is not too different than it's McDonald's predecessor. But overall, the setting plus variety of offerings plus good coffee still make this a win.
Wydown is the definition of modern coffee shop aesthetics. Black and gold interior, floral designs, and friendly barista. Located inside the Apollo luxury apartment and steps away to the Solid State Bookshop. Will have to come back often!
Fun little shop filled with savory and sweet treats. Delicious house coffee. The breakfast sandwiches are tasty—just lacking in presentation.
Vibes: good. Chill music. Clean. Nice staff. Wide walkways but only one booth/table everything else is bar or high tops outside. Coffee: medium body and tasty. Definitely freshly brewed came at 1030 am Food: the classic was very tasty. cinnamon bun is dessert level rich. Directions: when you walk in the pastry case is to the right of the register. Lattes get handed over the bar, coffees and pastries at the register. Food comes out on the opposite end of the bar by the snake plants. All milks are on the counter.
I wasn't impressed. If you really like coffee no flavors and chatting, then this may be the place for you. That's not me. I go to coffee shops to work and nibble on food outside of my office and home. On the drink front, I ordered a caramel macchiato $4.85, and it was the size of those paper water cups you get at a gym or doctor's office water cooler. Plus they didn't have caramel. So I canceled that, and the cashier recommended iced mocha. That tasted like if I ordered a drink and let the ice melt and attempted to drink it, but all the flavor is gone. So the only good thing about this place for me was the Blueberry lemon scone warmed but not worth the $3.85. Plus, they don't have wifi. So that was a fail. Now I did read a few reviews that said they do have wifi. So context, I sat right outside at the tables and nothing showed in available networks. Maybe you can get wifi from Apollo since Wydown is connected, but then that's not Wydown's wifi, and the range is very limited if sitting on the other side of glass ensures the wifi doesn't even show up as available. Even other places showed one bar available. Wydown had nothing, definitely not anything that wasn't locked by a password. So I'll do a hard pass on Wydown. Parking: Street parking available at cost for up to 2 hours. Or you can walk a few blocks and park for free on side streets
I wasn't particularly hungry when entering out of curiosity, but the atmosphere lured me to try something. Which I did. Finger good. But that was so tasty I went for a meal. Glad I did! I'll be back!Food: 4/5
Low-key one of my favorite spots in town. Preparation, atmosphere and customer experience 5/5. They always have a good slow bar menu and colorful single origin espresso. Highly recommend.
Lovely little coffee shop. Neighborhood staple, with friendly staff. Pastries are quite delicious tooRecommended dishesCinnamon Bun, Muffin, Oatmilk Latte
The Wydown will be to the south end of H Street NE what Maketto is to the north end of H Street providing a classy, yet accessible atmosphere with top notch coffee and pastries. The only real difference is The Wydown doesn't have wifi, a move to encourage face to face connection. The Wydown is in the new apartment building The Apollo and next to the soon to open Whole Foods. They have one booth area, a long window table, and bar seating with plug ins conveniently located by most seats. The staff are friendly and know how to craft the perfect latte. They offer a wide range of pastries and even DC's Harper Macaw chocolate bars. If you're on this end of H Street, there's no better coffee shop to visit. Welcome to the neighborhood, The Wydown!
