Overall, pleasant experience. I was aware of reserving mystery car, but didn't expect the mystery vehicle to be limited only to compact electric. Had to upgrade to full-size gas vehicle with an added $20/day fee! This bait-and-switch tactic was unexpected and unappreciated. Was offered extra insurance but wasn’t pushy. Agent tried convincing me to return car for fueling. I respectfully declined because I knew it wasn't beneficial to me. They ask for your credit card me believing it was to confirm the reservation…it’s a deposit of a little over $300. Selection of full-size vehicles were very slim as they were all limited to Malibu's. Outside of cars were a bit dirty, was told cars are washed but being parked outdoors incur dirt. Yet, I was satisfied with the vehicle. I dropped off the vehicle with a full tank and super early to avoid any confusion and delays. When I noticed no one was coming over to inspect the car, I took my belongings and made my way to the booth. Few other people were there. When I asked about drop off, the agent advised to proceed to air train. I was nervous because no one inspected car in my presence. I wasn't too worried because upon pickup, I'd taken lots of pictures both inside and outside of car. When I returned home, I reviewed my credit card statement for extra charges. There were none.
Update: I wrote a letter kindly requesting a refund for the car they were unable to provide. This was declined due to the fact that I was considered a NO SHOW. Terrible! On Feb 14 we arrived at 2:15pm to pick up our car. By 6:00pm we were still waiting and not even close to the front of the line. We had to seek out another car with another company on site as I had to get my daughter to a medical clinic before midnight and I had my doubts that there would even be a car for me once I got to the check-in desk. Once I was safely at clinic I called Thrifty to release the reservation so the car could be given to someone else in line. As this was a prepaid reservation I was told I could not cancel and would be considered a "no show" therefore no refund. It's now under dispute. A hassle I don't need. I wish I had read reviews before booking as it looks like this is a regular problem with Thrifty Rent a Car. Please see photos. This is one line up for Thrifty/Dollar. It appeared they were severely short staffed at the front.
I had the best experience you could get when I used Thirfty. There was barely any line when I got in and the guy who helped me check in was really nice. We went to where the cars are and we're told to go pick out our car. We chose a hybrid CR-V. The low tire light was on but we checked all of them before leaving and they were all fine. The tank was about 75% full which was perfect. Drove the car for almost 1k miles all over Arizona, and didn't have a single issue. The return was super simple, just park and leave the keys and head to your terminal. I quickly got my receipt and there were no issues and I was refunded my deposit immediately. Thank you Thrifty for making my trip go smoothly!
I would give zero stars if I could. I started my trip very stressful because of this company. I reserved the car online for $165. At the counter, they charged me $600!!! for a bunch of extra fees. I have rented cars from many airports around the world; no one has charged me this much for the additional fee. I picked one car at the counter, and when I got to the parking lot, there was no car there. This company is a joke. I am just praying to get my deposit back. * DO NOT BOOK BECAUSE OF THE ONLINE PRICE IS LESS THAN OTHER COMPANIES*
The Absolute Worst Rental car company ever! Seriously unprepared and the team is not very educated on how to get rental cars. I would rather have walked to my destination and I actually would have gotten there faster than this line! Next time just UBER for 3 days, it would be way more worth it! Time moves so SLOW here!
My recent experience with Thrifty Car Rental was marred by inefficiency and hidden fees. Despite promises of online check-in to streamline the process, signs displayed at the location, it saved no time; I still endured a frustrating 1.5-hour wait just to speak to an agent. Despite receiving an email confirmation for a BMW X5, Thrifty Car Rental attempted to foist an electric vehicle upon us upon arrival. This was unacceptable, especially considering our three-hour drive ahead, rendering an EV impractical. To compound the frustration, upon reaching the counter, I was informed that and I was offered a compact car instead, with an added $20/day fee! This bait-and-switch tactic, coupled with false promises and exorbitant wait times, leaves me thoroughly disappointed. Thrifty Car Rental's misleading practices and lack of regard for customer time make it a company to steer clear of.
I recently had a deeply disappointing experience with Thrifty Car Rental, which I booked through Orbitz for a trip. While the initial booking process seemed straightforward and the price appeared reasonable, my experience took a drastic turn for the worse upon returning the vehicle. Despite paying for the rental in full through Orbitz, Thrifty charged my credit card an additional $561.80 after the fact. An outrageous charge was attributed to a $400.00 "car wash" and other miscellaneous concession fees that were never disclosed to me upfront. These fees were not mentioned during the booking process, or when I returned the vehicle. In my opinion, this is nothing short of a predatory practice, designed to squeeze additional money from customers who have no recourse after the fact. I would strongly advise anyone considering Thrifty to think twice. My experience has been nothing short of a nightmare!
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME, currently still waiting for a car even though I’ve checked in online. I have been waiting for over 2 hours now. They had everyone in a line upstairs and made everyone walk down to their outside desk because it would be “quicker”. It’s taking the two employees here waaay too long to get through each person . WOULD GIVE 0 STARS
Easter Sunday 2 hour wait in line to pick up our car. After all of that the car selection for full size was slim - either the car was very dirty or had other maintenance issues. They need more than 2 people working the counter during business times.
Avoid these crooks. The car I rented blew both passenger side tires. The tech that replaced them said they had been previously repaired badly. I paid over $1000 having their car towed and replacing tires for them. They refuse to reimburse me because I didn't call the 800 number. Where this happened I had no cell service. If you don't want to pay for repairing their junk, rent elsewhere.
