My daughter who is hearing impaired attended this amazing school from the age of 3 to 8, she is now graduating from high school and attending University next year. I could not be more proud of her and this school for giving her the abilities to hear and speak out in the world. This school should be at the top of your list for hearing or hearing impaired. The teachers want to be there and care about your child like there own. The plays, Thanksgiving feast, and many other activities they have, are treasured memories in my family.
Tucker Maxon is an amazing school! We moved here several years ago so that two of our sons, one deaf, one hearing, could go there. I've always been grateful for their time there. I wish every child could learn in such a warm, caring environment.
All 3 of my boys have attended TMOS for preschool. It is such a wonderful learning environment. Play based, but they come out learning to read, count etc. The natural playground is wonderful. All the teachers are so dedicated. Even the preschoolers have art and gym and music classes!
These early years are the most important years of a childs life and choosing this school is a terrific way to grow up in a learning environment. The teachers and community of Tucker Maxon have helped our children thrive in feeling safe and encouraged to be their best, qualities they will carry for a lifetime. Our other favorite part, five days a week of P.E. here!
My Great Aunt is Alice Maxon. She would be proud of the how the school has grown and is a true asset to the community and all the families who get to call Tucker Maxon their school home. To all the teachers, staff and supporters ..... thank you, and keep up the good work!
Another year, I still stand behind this review. If you are stressing out over educating your child, check this place out. Not only an enclave of deaf community. An oral deaf pk -5th grade school teaching "typically hearing" along side kids with hearing loss. An amazing, affordable 1:8 staff ratio where our children receive a stellar education focusing on oral communication and emotional intelligence. Non profit, a gem of a school in Portland's inner east side. Chickens, goats, and a rock wall, too!
I attended TMOS for two years and practiced mainstreaming at Holy Family School for another two years. At the end of my stay I was flourishing socially and academically that I was able to return home to my family in Montana and continue my successes. I never forgot being taught that I am "lovable and capable." I'm now a dentist!
Awesome School!!!!
