Love this camp! Attended when I was a kid, worked there in college, and now my kids are living the same experiences I had the opportunity to enjoy. Lessons I learned at TVRC I've carried through life: Leadership, perseverance, acceptance, patience, respect for nature, etc. Current leadership has done an excellent job adapting to, while not conforming to, today's world. Kids are off their devices and engaged with one another. This is invaluable in today's modern world. The core tenants and values continue to shine through after 80+ years. Thank you TVRC!
If you want your children to unplug, become oriented to the opportunities the outdoors offer and be around a team of enthusiastic counselors and staff that feels like a family, this is the place for your children. Unlike many other summer camp options, TVRC offers 50 year plus of traditions. Your children come back knowing how to backpack, camp and generally with an appreciation of being outdoors, making it something they do for the rest of their lives. The children start at age 11 or 12 and then advance through each summer until aging out. This is a major contributor to the uniqueness and greatness of TVRC. The continuity as your child returns each season to see many of the same campers and staff creates a positive, supportive, family atmosphere. Even the parents feel like a TVRC family by the end of your child's years at camp.
I love this camp even with the ups and downs that happened, the camping trips were fun, so were the radios and staff. I got to see a lot of cool things and experience new things I would not have if I stayed home.
