Only uneducated scum working here. Do not bother calling to setup an appointment or for anything relatively difficult that might require the individuals to use their brain. Go online and do it yourself. Average college drop out or subpar college graduate working here.

It is typical large city office: a lot of clients, no parking lot (except nearby commercial). I came with my wife and kids two hours before office closing (we drove almost 2 hrs from our place). We obtained the queue number and after almost two hours awaiting we have got information, that we will not talk with an officer due to finished office hours! As far as external conditions can be acceptable, since they do not depend on the staff, such terrible organization is surprising. It is better to spend two hrs driving to go to Green Bay, where staff is very helpful and nice (the next day I solved my problem within 15 minutes)!!!

The Good: The IRS rep that helped me was great. She really took the time to try to find a way to be the most helpful possible. My situation was somewhat complicated and it took nearly an hour with her to resolve.
The Bad: The wait is excruciating. I arrived at 10:45 and did not get in to see the IRS agent until 1:30 or so. That said, you can't have the good without the bad here. I was not rushed so I knew that it might take a while. Unfortunately, I did not bring some work to do while I was in there so I wasted my wait time until I saw the agent.
The Ugly: The alternative is calling the IRS by phone and trying to resolve issues by phone. This system is medeival. I spent at least 3 days on hold for 45 minutes before talking to an agent over the phone. On two other occasions I had the opportunity to experience the IRS "on hold" system only to be disconnected before talking to a live human being.
If you come, be prepared to wait. Have your questions ready as they will help you resolve your issues. If you plan accordingly, it does not have to be a total waste of time but plan to occupy yourself with other work during your wait.

I've now been waiting in line for THREE HOURS in the hallway outside of the waiting room just to get to the receptionist desk & take a number so I can then sit in the waiting room for several more hours just to get a copy of my W2 form.... This is absolutely ridiculous, you would think that a federal agency funded by our tax dollars would be better prepared & more heavily staffed for tax season. I had to call into work and tell my boss I would be late for my shift because of the incredibly ill preparedness of the Milwaukee IRS office, I've likely got a parking ticket waiting for me by the time I get out of this hell hole, and I've seen dozens of people walk in & walk out when they see the line just to take a number. All in all its about a five hour wait time to get a measly W2, and a huge disservice to the taxpayers that fund the IRS. I've never felt that my taxes we're being more inappropriately used to provide a government service as I do today. There are a total of nine windows available for IRS staff to use while helping people, but they appear to be so incredibly understaffed that they only have two windows open making your visit to this office a grueling & agonizing process. I never thought I'd say this, but the experience I've had at the IRS today is worse than even my most miserable experiences at the Wisconsin DMV which is pretty damn terrible.
