My experience with the OSO Capt. Harper and the current team has been positive so far. I did not only get help unlike other branches but I also got to proceed forward with the application and entire process to become a USMC Officer. The process has been transparent for me and I have enjoyed all the pool functions which have helped me tremendously in both ways: mentally and physically.
Poor professionalism on Capt. Chad Harper. He lost his temperament and professionalism when I asked to take a promotional photo next time when I am fully prepared in a professional attire/uniform. He threatened me with personal repercussions as his last resort to subdue me into his command i.e. conducting a phone call to my current unit and ordering me to a parade rest. He shouted at me "don't waste a mariner's time," and "get out of my office" after I kindly asked to take my promotional picture next time when I turn in other paperwork as a reasonable request. He ended the process by refusing an opportunity for me to take a photo next time when I am fully prepared. Capt. Chad Harper personally ridiculed me on the spot about my discontinuation with one of the city employments which he learned during our conversation. His egotistic personality consumed the last bit of his dignity, self-respect, and professionalism as he lost his temperament, yelling across the office, face turning red all because he would not take my reasonable request for taking a photo next time when I am fully prepared and ready to turn in the rest of paperwork. Capt. Chad Harper is the perfect example of complacency overcoming professionalism after many years of military career as his comfort chair has not been regularly inspected. Yes, I conduct myself to the highest standard with respect and dignity to everyone as I properly greeted Capt. Chad Harper from the beginning to the end of interview. I still rendered a proper greeting after he lost control over his emotional instability. No, I did not try to create my own procedure when I asked for a reschedule of promotional photo as I have to submit the rest of paperwork in person regardless.
In reference to the review from Gking, as a former Marine combat vet, I can absolutely say the Captain Harper made the correct decision not accepting this person as a candidate. No one, that would write this review has what it takes to make it in Corps. Semper Fi sir and thank you for not lowering standards Rah!!!
Excellent facility and staff. If you have a dream to become a Marine Corps officer and are willing to put in the work, then this office will help you accomplish your goals.
Capt Harper has been instrumental in shaping me as an officer of Marines. He shows a level of empathy and professionalism that reminds why the Marine Corps is truly unique among the military services. I encourage anyone looking for a challenging and fulfilling new career to stop by.
The best OSO/OSA you could possibly ask for, definitely will make and mold you into the Marine Officer you want to become.
Extremely professional and awesome. The OSO was very friendly and informative and very helpful when it came to explaining the process and potentially starting it.
Captain Harper and all the lieutenants at the Manhattan office are amazing. They really go the extra mile to help all the candidates succeed in being selected for OCS and beyond. The weekly physical training events that are held by the office will help you succeed in selection and at OCS. On top of this the office is always willing to give advice to help you improve your performance. If you have ever thought about becoming a marine officer I highly recommend you visit the office and see what they have to offer.
Capt Harper is the best! He is very dedicated to his candidates.
Capt Harper is dedicated to finding the Marine Corps’ next generation of future leaders and warriors. He’s willing to help those who have long left his charge as poolees/candidates succeed by sharing his knowledge and through mentorship.
