Winter Island Park

This place is seriously wonderful. My friends and I spent a magical weekend curled up around the campfire, roasting marshmallows and drawing pictures in the dirt. The scenery is quaint and it isn't too far downtown Salem. We were even fortunate to experience a tiny band of chubby raccoons who were kind enough to join us for dinner one night. They were really nice, and one of them sat up straight like he thought he was people. 10/10 would recommend.

Great park. Fabulous views, friendly staff, clean restrooms. Planning to go camping there this summer.

If you like rv camping in a parking lot this is for you. The sites are not wide. Not really enough room to open your awning and the neighbor to open their slide outs.This is a public boat ramp that part of the parking lot is reserved for rv camping. The other side of the property is used for tent camping and an open field for more rv units. Because this is a small island developed for a fort with an extensive history there is no dumping of sewer water. Only the bath house and military building have septic or dump tanks. No grass and No trees in the sea view sites. Other than that the sea view is picture perfect. The price is relatively good. They removed the sink and mirrors from the men's shower room. They were very clean. The womens shower floor felt slimy. Very lukewarm water in women's showers. Toilet flushing reduces shower water heat and pressure in both shower rooms.

We stopped here on our way from Philadelphia to Acadia National Park and wow what a treat! The campground is located on an old coast guard island and there is a large abandoned sea plan hanger in the middle of the campground which makes it a little eerie but cool non the less. What I did not expect was the beautiful views and all of the awesome little beaches and rocks to climb and trails to follow. It was truly a unique place but one of the neatest that I have been too and I would have loved to stay longer but we plan on going back again sometime for a long weekend! Short less than 10 minute drive into downtown Salem. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. 5 & 6 year old sons had a blast and could have easily spent a few more days exploring the area. Really unique campground but definitely worth checking out!
