Majoring in Advertising or Public Relations (ADPR) at Suffolk will prepare you for exciting professional communication careers in today’s economy.
Building on a liberal arts foundation, you will take communication core courses and a sequence of ADPR requirements. Your advertising, public relations, and digital and social media courses and internships blend theory with a hands-on approach to give you knowledge of the trends and practices in these fields.
In ADPR courses, individual skill building and project teamwork are key. As part of your coursework, you’re likely to: Work on an ad campaign for a class client, design a website, plan a public relations or social media campaign, craft messages for print and online media, advocate for a cause or candidate, create a blog, write a grant.
Your professors are industry and nonprofit experts with both academic and real-world knowledge. Their backgrounds cut across industries, including advertising, public relations, marketing, fashion, sports and entertainment promotion, as well as nonprofit development and political communication.
Through faculty mentoring, you will tailor your program according to your interests. You may be advised to take on a minor, such as Arts Administration or Graphic Design, or be guided into an internship. More than 100 ADPR majors each year intern at leading firms, at nonprofits, and in government.
