“This place has a little magic for every person who visits.” –review of Allerton Park and Retreat Center

Built as a private residence by artist and philanthropist Robert Allerton in 1900, Allerton Park and Retreat Center offers a unique opportunity to experience art, nature, and history away from the distractions of everyday life. The estate contains 1,500 acres of woodland and prairie areas, a Mansion and Reflecting Pond, formal sculpture gardens, hiking trails, a 10-acre Meadow, and several lodging facilities.

Allerton is available to host a wide range of events including weddings, meetings, conferences, retreats, and special events. Overnight accommodations are also available.

Allerton is open 8am to sunset. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. If it is not rented for a private event, the Mansion’s first floor is available for self-guided tours. Quarterly public tour dates can be found on our website.

The Visitor Center is open daily, 9am-5pm, and is an unstaffed, self-guided resource with a small café (check website for current hours), maps, displays, and restrooms.

What a great place to unwind, relax, and enjoy nature. We took the whole family. Everyone had a wonderful time. Grandparents and grandchildren had plenty of fun walking the trails and exploring together. Nice little Café on the premise. We even enjoyed live music the first night there.
My parents got married here 40 years ago. It's a beautiful park! There are clean restrooms available. and a wonderful dog- friendly picnic area.
One of the most beautiful wonders of Illinois. You feel like you've stepped out of your car and stepped into a Narnia Chronicle. Incredibly well-kept estate with bright capable and kind people. Magical.
Allerton Park has been a speacial place for me since my first visit in 1990. I was in high school then and my friends and I would come here to hike the trails. Since then I have made numerous visits and now that I have kids of my own I love bringing them here to enjoy this park as much as I did when I was their age. Wonderful place to spend the day and bring a picnic basket.
Beautiful gardens, especially the peonies! Many hiking trails with statues and sculptures along the way.
Always love these gardens! Missing some of the things I remember from my childhood fish food, gift shop, etc but still wonderful!
Hiking at any time of year is beautiful, on both the south and north side of the river. The flowers in spring are gorgeous.
This place is just so beautiful and they have amazing programs and events all year long. Highly recommend a visit! Restrooms: Public restrooms available. Dog-friendliness: Dogs on leashes are allowed. Picnic area: They have a new table that also serves as a charging station. Plenty of space to picnic throughout the grounds.
I photograph weddings all over Illinois and Allerton Mansion is always one of my favorites. A gorgeous mansion combined with acres of beautiful photo opportunities make for a beautifully unique, one-of-a-kind wedding venue. Highly recommend.
Unique property in the midst of central illinois farmland. Definitely worth a visit. Beautiful gardens and sculptures. Lots of interesting info in the visitor center. Mansion is eclectic. Trails are in good shape.
