This was an unexpected rare find. We found this museum on the way out of Independence Hall. The current exhibit is Women in Science and it is a good balance of informative and fun facts. Admission is free and the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. This is a great spot for a temperature controlled short detour after exploring Independence Hall or the Liberty Bell.
There's nothing extraordinary about the exhibit's material or presentation that I saw when I visited here, but it was still interesting enough to keep me engaged through the entire visit and it's a free museum. Nothing here is worth going too far out of your way to see, but it's a nice free one hour detour from the other attractions in the area so I'd still recommend it.
I tried to call them cus I wanna know when they open back up so I can see the ghost of Ben frank but it keeps sending me to the company directory
One of the many historical sites in Philly, this was founded Benjamin Franklin to “promote useful knowledge.” A really cool site that you don’t want to miss.
Saw a small exhibit on Benjamin Franklin's legacy. Entrance is free. Exhibit had letters, books, and other research material by prominent APS members.
Rich history. This was Ben Franklin's private 'social club' in the 1700's. He and 5 scholars from different education backgrounds would meet here on Friday nights, drink, philosophize and amazing world changing inventions and ideas are traced back to this very building. A must see for visitors and native Philadelphians alike. You won't be disappointed.
I enjoyed my visit and discussion with Andrew. He was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin, among others; promotes useful knowledge in the sciences and humanities. Very interesting to learn about how the Founding Fathers established an institution that encouraged learning and scientific exploration in our country when it was new. I love what this place stands for.
The suggested donation is $5, I think. It should be $2. An institution with this history should have a wonderful museum. They have a single room about the size of a large classroom.
This is a tiny, free museum in the building Franklin used for his philosophical society meetings that usually has great exhibits. Google maps got the location wrong though; it's actually in the building across the street.
