Duncan & Miller Glass Museum

About

A small private museum displaying glass from Geo Duncan & Sons and Duncan & Miller Glass Companies made from 1867 to 1955. The museum is owned by The National Duncan Glass Society.

Description

In 1975, a group of glass collectors, led by Betty Duncan Allison and Orva Heissenbuttel, met in the Citizens Library in Washington, PA, and formed The National Duncan Glass Society. The mission of the new organization was: "To collect information concerning the history, patterns and manufacturing techniques of Duncan and Miller Glass and to establish a museum or a permanent exhibit of Duncan and Miller glass." Two rooms in the Washington County Historical Society, LeMoyne House, became the home for the young museum. For seventeen years a harmonious relationship was maintained.

The goal to establish a museum to preserve the rich history of Duncan and Miller Glass to house a permanent exhibit was realized in 1992 when the Society purchased an old building on Jefferson Ave. in Washington, PA not far from where the Duncan and Miller factory once stood. Local members worked tirelessly to remodel and upgrade the site. The museum opened on July 8, 1993. Today, the members are proud of the museum and the stunning collection of glassware displayed there.

The generosity of the local collectors and enthusiasts from across the country, and acquisitions made by the Society, continually add to the collection which includes not only glassware, but glassmaking tools, molds and memorabilia. The Duncan and Miller Glass Museum is a fascinating piece of American history. The members of the National Duncan Glass Society are committed to preserving this part of the past for the enjoyment and education of future generations.

The Duncan & Miller Glass Museum is open April - December from 11 AM - 4 PM, and year round by appointment. We welcome group tours and offer special pricing for participants.
