Came here to attend The Last of Us immersive experience and the staff was amazing. Everyone was so nice, security was nice too and wished everyone fun. The only complaint I have and why I’m taking one star off is due to accessibility and seating. In regards to the seats, if you are let’s say over 250 pounds the seats will not be comfortable for you to sit in. If you are taller than 6 feet you will have no leg room as I standing at 5’9 had my knees touching the back of the chair in front of me the entire viewing. Accessibility wise, I believe it’s steps and steps only. The theater I was in was located on the lower level of the theater which was, from as far as I know, only accessible by stairs. When it comes to getting to other levels of the theater I’m not sure. To get inside of the theater it’s also stairs only. Overall I’m glad I had the opportunity to attend the early viewing of the last of us
first time here for the movie ‘Close’. Angelika is one of New York’s classic staple cinema and it did not disappoint. The interior and cafe is extremely cute and the movie theatre is clean and well-kept. There are comments that mentioned subway noises. I did hear them during the movie but it did not bother me, in fact, I thought it sounded like the heartbeat of New York City and I kind of enjoyed it. Keep up the good work angelika!
Saw the premiere of Banshees of Inisherin here. The line situation was an absolute mess. The lobby upstairs was completely packed with people and the line was barely moving. It took them about 20 minutes to rudely ask everyone with physical tickets to form a separate line. They should really put up some signs to help guide patrons. Also, they don’t serve popcorn upstairs and the guy behind the counter rudely announced it by yelling at everyone. No butter for the popcorn either, so it was super bland. Theater was tiny and cramped, and the screen was improperly formatted, so the bottom of the image was cut off.
I feel like if you are absolutely accustomed to the regal/amc movie going experience, and you dropped into Angelika, you’d be struck by the novelty of having a cafe in the lobby, the vintage posters all over, and the strange layout of the theater seats once you’re inside. But if you’ve been to anything outside of the giant chains, this one falls short on many levels. 18 dollar tickets, sub par snacks, average seats, and weird theater layout which doesn’t allow anyone to sit in the true middle of the theater, all makes for an experience that is truly just okay.
The Angelika used to be my favorite movie theater and it was the first place I went to see a movie since the pandemic began. I was disappointed in the upkeep of this once upscale theater. The Cafe area was dark and dismal. The seats in the theater were mushy and there wasn't a gradient from one row to the next. If someone taller than you sat in front of you, it would be difficult to see the screen. Since there is assigned seating, you can't change your seat to one where you can see better. The garbage can in the women's room was over flowing with paper towels. I will try to avoid this theater in the future!
It's nice to be back to a movie theater after such a long time. It was almost a private screening, perhaps 10 people total, which is a movie experience I personally prefer though probably not tjr theater owners. The theater was clean enough, the chairs weren't sticky or anything of the sort. Movie previews took a bit too long to sit through, especially after years of Netflix binge training. The food at the lobby is a bit too expensive, and the fact that some of it is more fancy than what you'd find at a "regular" theater they have a wine bar, means the price is even higher. Overall I enjoyed myself.
Love this theatre. I have been going to it since early 2000's. It's clean and two areas to purchase snacks, candy and drinks on both floors. Bathroom Women is clean as well. I have a few issues with the building the theatre is I ....the dang scaffolding......like long has that been up????? Building owner needs repair the issue and take scaffolding down. The other is the "Up" escalator and the elevator is not working in the theatre; are the owners trying to dissuade a certain group of people cough: seniors from patronizing it. The stairs are steep even for younger individual. It's located at expensive address it would help a lot if more ppl would be able to see a film there. I am just saying I don't want Angelika going the way like the other independent theatre that got turned into some unsightly blight of a new building.
Absolutely amazing experience. The building was perfect for the event and the decorations were stunning!
I love Angelika but 3 stars for the following reasons. 1. Fix the elevator. I don't mind steps however it looks bad. Older people may need it and it has been in this state for months. 2. Small popcorn is 9.00, small water is 7.00. 3 popcorn is made with coconut oil which is saturated fat.
Great film selection! Terrible seating due to nearly level floors. Should be inclined so one can see over the folks in front of you. Often drafty and cold. Light seeps through the theater doors causing glare and distracting light in one’s peripheral vision. Popcorn and soda prices incredibly expensive!
