I did a bad thing and bought a puppy from a pet store. I know, I know...I'm a terrible person. But once I walked in and saw her, I knew I was done for. She was exactly what I had been searching for and was unable to find for under $1000 from local and not-so-local German Shepherd breeders. I have had her close to 4 weeks now and I am in love! She is so smart and has a great personality and temperament. I didn't use the free visit from their Vet, I used mine and she just got a clean bill of health. He said she is in perfect shape. I have just read all the bad reviews of this place and wanted to give my 2 cents. Yes the place does smell but so would Martha Stewart's house if she had 50 animals in her living room. I took notice of the cages while I was there and they were all clean except for what the animals had recently done. I had the older man help me who was very nice and had a great sense of humor. I came the next day to pick her up thinking I would be in and out in 5 minutes but was there for almost an hour while he explained everything, checked her over, trimmed her nails...he was very thorough. I just wanted to relay the awesome experience I had here. Maybe I just got lucky with my girl because I have heard horror stories about buying dogs from a pet store but I would recommend this place to someone who can't afford the breeder's prices. I would buy from them again. They have been there for 23 years so they must be doing something right!
Place is disgusting and should be shut down IMMEDIATELY. Rescued a puppy from this filth and a few weeks later she started to have bad seizures. 4 months old and was forced to put my puppy down. The dirty old man in this place and owner should be ashamed of themselves. Karma will eventually come after the people who own this place. They should be arrested for cruelty to animals. There is a VERY GOOD reason why vet's in the Montgomery and Bucks county areas tell people not to go to this place. I wish I knew before it was too late but at least I rescued a beautiful, sweet, affectionate puppy from this place who impacted our lives in 2 months more than I could have ever dreamed. I have reported this place to the SPCA of Bucks Country and the Animal Control Board for cruelty and deplorable conditions. Rest in Peace Cally, we miss you baby girl.
My husband and I went in, just looking, not planning on buying and saw two puppies we fell in love with. We ended up purchasing one. The older man who helped us was very helpful and not pushy at all, and we were there for almost an hour trying to decide. We picked a Keeshond puppy. He showed us the book, trimmed the puppy's nails, and such. Took the puppy to the vet and the vet said the puppy was as healthy as could be. The only thing that prevents me from giving 5 stars is that our puppy is NOT a Keeshond at all. Now that he's a year old, he looks identical to a Elkhound, he is not poofy or large like a Keeshond at all. But I still would get another puppy there. I heard they're closing down for good now though.
Purchased a wonderful Chihuahua puppy yesterday. This is my third pup from this store. I also have a 7 year old lab mix who is wonderful and healthy. My old dog which was my first from here died last year at the ripe old age of 17.
I can't say I was impressed by the cleanliness of the store nor the conditions the animals were kept under and the owners/workers certainly seem to try to "push" customers into buying puppies and not kittens ie: I'm assuming because the prices are much higher. The woman seems to know more about the animals than the gentleman there ie: I wanted a kitten and buy/adopt based on how the animal interacts with me and NOT based on breed, color, type, etc. People who have an issue with buying from pet shops are forgetting that those animals need homes just as badly as shelter animals and want and deserve human love and care equally. Punishing the owner/store/breeder typically ends in punishing the ANIMAL. Although they seemed sketchy on the age and price of the kitten I wanted the man quoted $99 dollar for a short hair I was interested in while the woman corrected him and said "No, the short hairs are $35 and the long hairs are $99". However, the kitten is absolutely the most amazing, affectionate, beautiful kitten I've ever had. He showed zero fear or shyness when I brought him home, took to my *loud* 8 year old son right away, and has yet to cry or put claws out. He is sweet, purrs all the time, and allows you to carry him, touch his paws, his ears, and even answers to commands after just 2 days with me. He's scheduled for a wellness check and any needed shots tomorrow ie: the store sells them dewormed and vaccinated appropriately dependent on age so I won't know "for sure" if he's healthy until then, but I have to say that he seems like he's happy, healthy, and playful. Always be careful regardless of where you buy because even shelters can be dishonest, unaware, or downright negligent and I'm tired of everyone telling people not to buy at pet stores. It's the ANIMAL that suffers when you refuse to adopt/buy based on "where" you're getting it, NOT the owner whether guilty of neglect or not. Making pet-purchases and adoptions a "political" issue rather than personal choice and genuine love of animals does NOT make you a humanitarian nor an animal rights activist. Buy from where you feel comfortable based on the individual animal and your instincts, NOT on what others tell you is "right" or "wrong" barring obvious illegal mills and the like, of course. If you buy from this store I would suggest getting them to a vet within the first week, though regardless of whether you're buying an expensive purebred dog, a mutt, or a kitten/cat. No matter where they come from, animals that live in groups need to be checked out right away so that YOU are in control of their future health and not rolling the dice as far as trusting the seller that includes private breeders who breed fancy animals. They're no more honest than a pet store or shelter, so the same rules apply. I'd buy here again, but with caution because of the lack of cleanliness and firm knowledge of WHERE the mutts and cats come from and just make sure to get them to a vet right away to be sure they're safe for you and your family/pets as well as healthy themselves.
Please do NOT waste your time at this place. It looks like the animals are neglected and not cared for properly. All of the dogs with long hair were filthy. Their hair was matted, stringy with dirty in it, dogs that were once white were very brown with dirt-bodies and faces. It looks as if they played in the dirt several times and are not groomed/brushed at all. Even the cats did not look great- 1 of the 3 cats there had so much eye drainage from it's one eye it looked as if no one ever took the time to wipe his eyes. If the owner doesn't bother to care for the outside of these animals, imagine the internal issues he may not be bothering with.
My husband and I are looking to get a puppy we were not sure to go to Animal House because of the bad reviews I saw online, we decided to go yesterday afternoon Friday 1 of March and when we got there two ladies were going out with a really sad face, we went in there was no one there so we went straight to see around the store there were two puppies in the entrance in a cage they looked really sad and in a bad condition, we then saw the bird which poor things were the words bird i have seen in my life they where not taken care of at all, the we got to the dog are and there where so many dogs in a cage of different breeds you couldn't really tell them apart one of the dogs cage was not secured and got out to jump on the window, then as we where see the dog a weird guy show up from our back and ask us what we needed? we answered we were there to look at the puppies and know there prices, he very rude say your here to just see the puppies or buy them, then his phone ring and he say just give me a minute, he went to the front sit down to chat and forgot about us, we leaved the instant we saw he didn't care about his customers he less will care about all those animals there, is saw to see animals in those conditions and just a bad service it sicked us.
So excited! Thanks!
