I have been creating maps since the age of five, continuing to draw my own maps after being trained as a cartographer by the British Government.
My maps can depict a single feature (such as rail lines) a town, whole countries, entire continents or complex graphics detailing an entire landscape down to each building. The maps are created on paper, canvas, board, wood or skin and include commissioned pieces.
The intent is to create maps that look like they could be real places and have a depth of information and sometimes history. When created directly on wood the grain acts as the contours so that the “landscape” dictates where features can be placed. The maps can be inspired by a region, country or specific feature and include research into that area to ensure plausibility. My main challenge is having the patience to draw what I have already envisioned as the maps can take several months.
