I am not a photographer, but an explorer. With the every changing light, nature offers an endlessness amount of possibilities. The less obvious, the better. With my images, my goal is to show the viewer what they could be seeing. Everyone sees the world around them in their own meaningful way; I try to show the details that may have been overlooked. I travel to places not uncommonly traveled; there are few places I have been that the path is not well worn. It’s the elastic paths of light that I aim to discover.
Though I am not formally educated in the arts, artistic creation has surrounded me from a very young age. From relatives, I’ve seen the possibilities and distinctions that each individual eye can possess. My work has become just that, distinct. Whether the piece is in color or black and white, the view, the angle, even the subject, it is always distinct.
I am often torn between the words art and design. My work falls between the two textbook definitions. For art to be art, it should covey meaning and emotion. It is difficult for me to convey meaning when the subject matters do not always have emotion. Architecture, for example, can be beautiful. The lines, the shadows and the colors all lend to a beautiful piece, but the emotion that one would look for is missing. This is where the design aspect in my work comes in. Design has its own place in the community. Art as a whole has one true purpose, to project significance in life, which is fundamentally devoid of any objective meaning.
At the end of the day, my goal is for myself to combine emotional honesty with the people involved in my life, but at the same time, attain a highly stylized way of working.
