Berkeley Public Library South Branch

It's a nice facility but it's really loud. People were talking really loudly, the staff was really loud like taking personal calls on their phone and speaking bizarrely loudly. The whole culture of being quiet in the library doesn't seem to be present here and the staff doesn't enforce it and actively participates in it. I wouldn't recommend working here because it can be distracting if you don't have headphones on.

Awesome resource, the tool library sounds amazing. The library is nice and clean, highly recommend stopping in. The only improvements i could see would be having a resource pamphlet that outlines Berkeley local support orgs for those struggling and a water fountain that is bottle friendly.

-1 * due to excessive popular fiction. The tool library is really useful though. Can't complain about the location 2 Blocks from Berkeley Bowl. Kitchen items including cookie cutters and stand mixers doesn't that seem catering to the rich. Poor people who ride the bus are not going to likely bring a stand mixer back to the subsidized apartment. Poor people barely have enough money to ride the bus. This library is in some ways a real disappointment with only one oak table or birch table by the window. There are wobble tables by the check out desk. I might have overheard the male librarians refer to some patrons as the explicative deemed a polite form of address. There are 8 or 10 PC laptops for check out most likely only in the library. Seems like there was bad planning What doesn't make sense is how the library book babysitter or overseer is paid staggering wages I mean salary. The poor can barely afford their resumes printed. You only get 4 pages of free printing a day. So a rich person checks out stand mixer to impress a dinner party with canapés. A rich person fills up the mongo shopping carts at Berkeley Bowls with $400 hoarding food. Not like they live in the boondocks 3 hours from a gas station food store. I mean catering and pandering to your every wish. The library books are utter gutter goofish unrealistic portrayals of true mental illness living in a bubble world. And the feminist library supporters are backing the very books the majority of the books on the shelves are mysteries which the attacked is usually a f e male with a good job high income family wealth. never is a mystery about a poor street beggar that would appeal to none. The prices of the books are outrageous. Replacement of lost books is subject to retail The wall relief of the goldleaf foil oak tree by the bathrooms is cool. At least its modern. Didn't see one technical book here to justify their awards on website whereas main library has a better selection. Hippie Food is on the shelf.

The library itself deserves 5 stars - nice interior, clean tables, comfortable chairs, outlets etc. I use it mostly for study or doing online assignments after work, and Wi Fi, even not fastest one, usually works well for me. The only problem with this library is that there are always 2-3 homeless people, usually sleeping in the chairs. I understand that library is comfortable spot for them, but once I took a chair and it smelt extremely nasty. Library shouldn't be the homeless shelter.

Awesome library. Quiet and clean. If you're looking for a large selection of books, Central Library is where you need to go. This is a chill place to bring your tablet/laptop, your personal books, notebooks, and work on your projects in a quiet and clean environment that is quite cozy as far as libraries go.

Good place to study, but often crowded.

This library is fairly quiet. The Wi-Fi is not that good. There are multiple times that it disconnects when I use it. I found out that the internet is capped on bandwidth for each device. This is for the entire Berkeley Public Library system. Don't use the internet if you need a large amount of internet usage. The only good thing about the Berkeley Public Library system is charging devices. This isn't a good work environment if you need to be online. The only thing that the internet is good for is very lite work. This would be things like shopping online.

This library got a makeover not too long ago and came out looking great. They did a good job incorporating energy-efficient features.

Very nice, well organized and stocked library branch. The staff is also very helpful and willing to help. I got my library card in no time and was able to use it right away
