We often say that the difference between our diets and our competitors’ diets is not on the outside of the bag, but is inside the bag. When comparing and contrasting labels of different brands, one can easily decipher that a diet containing low-grade ingredients such as, “chicken by-product meal” or “corn gluten” is subordinate to a diet that contains ingredients such as, “chicken meal” or “brown rice.” But what most pet parents do not realize is that just because a diet has ingredients such as “chicken meal” or “brown rice” listed, doesn’t necessarily mean that the diet is of the highest quality. For example, there are currently many grades of chicken meal, all of which can legally be called “chicken meal” on the ingredient list, but are significantly different in terms of nutritional value and digestibility.
Each ingredient in our formulas MUST be of the highest quality, meaning no animal by-products, corn, soy, wheat, and gluten (corn gluten meal). Further, Best Breed does not use any artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors. Each kibble is balanced and complete and contains concentrated amounts of highly-digestible nutrition – maximizing nutrient absorption.
Protein: Best Breed only uses premium, all-natural, and hormone-free sources of protein from named sources. All of the company’s formulas are meat-based, meaning that meat is the first ingredient in the ingredient list, and most importantly, nearly all of the stated protein is derived from meat.
Fats: Fats used in Best Breed’s formulas are derived from wholesome, highly-digestible sources and are rich in essential fatty acids.
Carbohydrates: Best Breed uses wholesome non-GMO grains, fruits, and vegetables that are rich in essential vitamins and nutrients and serve as quality sources of fiber. The company’s food is produced using a unique slow-cook, low-temperature extruding process that ensures carbohydrates are conditioned for easy digestion and maximum nutrient absorption. This process also helps ensure that natural vitamins, minerals, and proteins are not compromised.
Vitamins & Chelated Minerals: Best Breed’s formulas are supplemented with balanced levels of vitamins and minerals to help ensure healthy growth and development and a properly functioning body. As minerals are difficult for most pets to absorb, Best Breed only uses “Chelated” minerals. The use of chelated minerals is known to improve the absorption rate of certain essential nutrients into pets’ bloodstream.
Joint Health Ingredients (Green-Lipped Sea Mussel): Glucosamine and the Green- Lipped Sea Mussel (perna-canaliculus) naturally support proper joint and connective tissue health The Green-Lipped Sea mussel is also rich in amino acids, chelated minerals, and fatty acids.
Probiotics: Assist in nutrient absorption and help facilitate proper digestion.
High-Oxygen Barrier Packaging: To keep nutrient-destroying oxygen out and preserve freshness, our food is packaged in high oxygen barrier poly bags with resealable zippers.

Best Breed pays a premium to source only U.S.-grown, non-GMO grains and meats from accredited U.S.-based suppliers. Further, all diets are also produced in the U.S., in facilities that are both European Union approved and regularly inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
