Your favorite neighborhood Pub & Restaurant providing the perfect pint in an Irish setting.

MUSIC SCHEDULE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Description

Established in 1743, this building has been in continuous use as a tavern, inn, dance hall, pub and restaurant for more than 270 years—and it has stories to tell!

It’s been on the right side of history again and again. Many a tankard was raised to the Continental cause here during the Revolution, when it was called The Trooper. Washington and Lafayette are rumored to have stopped here, and Lafayette’s troops billeted here after the Battle of Barren Hill in 1777. (By then, it had already been serving ale and a warm welcome to travelers and neighbors for more than 35 years.)

Known as “The Farmers and Drovers Hotel” during the 1800s, the Inn offered extensive sheds to weather livestock as it was herded down the Ridge and Germantown roads. At this time, it also became a stop on the Underground Railroad, with a tunnel (now sealed off, but still existing) stretching to the General Lafayette Hotel and then on to St. Peter’s cemetery.

By the early 1900s, dances were held on the 3rd floor, with a fiddler supplying the tunes, while gambling entertained gentlemen on the 1st floor. (The feelings of the overnight guests whose rooms were sandwiched on the 2nd floor? We can only imagine.)

The name Brittingham’s came into play with popular local owners Frank and Nancy Brittingham, who established an Irish theme in the 1970s. It was so beloved and successful that the subsequent owners, first a trio of retired Naval aviators and then Mike and Susan Allan, retained both name and concept.

Extensive but respectful, our 2013 renovations have taken this marvelous history into full account. We’ve kept the thick, ancient walls, mullioned windows and some charming woodwork and nooks while creating modern spaces that accommodate a vibrant new sensibility.

It’s Brittingham’s goal to ensure this grand old Inn sees another 270 years of laughter, conviviality and welcome—starting today, with you!

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of drinking, dining, attending events, and hosting an event at Brittingham's - and every time, it did not disappoint. The staff is always welcoming, courteous, and professional. The food is delicious, from starters to desserts. And Brittingham's is one of my favorite spots to indulge in a cocktail. And I don't want to forget to mention the fantastic atmosphere. The interior is stunning, but my favorite part is the indoor-outdoor bar, complete with a fire-featured patio.
This place is amazing, things have been crazy this last year, and to be able to celebrate the 1st communion class after the pandemic at Brittinghams was AWESOME. Dividers were built and brought in to even make things safer, Vincent Patete Thank you for building them. Guys check this place out, parties, events, just lunch or dinner, inside and out. Over all a 5 star performance.
Helped celebrate my daughter in laws baby shower. It was a brunch baby shower given by her mom. Food and service was good. Features: Didn't need to wear a mask.
All of the food and drinks were excellent. Crab cakes were delicious...lots of lump crab meat. The turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich was also really good. Beautiful patio if you like sitting outside
Had a small wedding ceremony here, they could not of done more. Everyone from the bartenders, waitresses etc. was Amazing. The food was Absolutely delicious. Wish I could do it all over again
Great food. Had their gluten-free dinner with pork tenderloin, asparagus over mashed cauliflower. It was delicious. It actually comes with mashed sweet potatoes. Yum. The atmosphere is fun with two outdoor fire pits. And tonght's entertainment Joey Vincent was a blast. He has a great voice, singing everything from country and rock to Phantom of the Opera. And he's a polished trumpet player who could imitate every famous horn player. They also have free valet parking with a cool text message retrieval system. All in all a fun and delicious evening at Brittinghams.
Very nice atmosphere. Great service, good food. I had the corn beef hash with potatoes and eggs, I was impressed. The brioche French toast was so awesome, we ordered a second plate lol. I will definitely return.
I went to a baby shower there for my niece It was a really nice place. The outside don't look as good as inside when I went inside I was really surprised it's really nice inside the people and the service.Food: 3/5
