The simple solution to your healthcare needs since 1968.

Description

History

In 1956 Dr. Tom Duke began the practice of Internal Medicine in Amarillo, Texas in the Doctors Building at 1422 Tyler. By mid-1960 his practice had grown to the point that he needed additional physicians. At that time he began to formulate the idea of a group composed of specialists in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Duke drew on his knowledge of procedures learned at Yale Diagnostic Clinic and after several visits to and consultations with the Houston Diagnostic Clinic and the Kelsey-Seebold Clinic in Houston, Texas, the basic ideas which resulted in the development of Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic were formulated.

In 1965, Dr. H. Wayne Smith contacted Dr. Tom Duke about establishing a clinic that could meet the needs of patients in the Panhandle region. At the time the two felt that an undertaking of this magnitude may be premature. Dr. Smith remained optimistic and in 1967 joined Dr. Duke.

Three hundred miles away Dr. John Milton was completing his residency at the V.A. Hospital in Dallas and learned of the idea to build a diagnostic clinic in north Texas. After a few telephone conversations with Dr. Duke, Dr. Milton was en route to Amarillo to learn more about the new plan. "I had been told", chuckles Dr. Milton, "by Austin people that Amarillo dust storms were awful." But upon his arrival to Amarillo on January 10, 1968, he found something totally unexpected. "It was a beautiful sunshiny day," Dr. Milton says. "Not bad weather at all. It was very pretty. Amarillo was not the sandbox that I had been told it was." Dr. Milton was sold on Amarillo and he joined Dr. Smith and Dr. Duke in establishing Amarillo's first comprehensive outpatient diagnostic clinic.

Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic started out modestly. Pooling their resources and debts, the three doctors and a business manager began the practice at the corner of 15th and Tyler streets in the green-trimmed three story Doctors' Building. In October 1968, they officially christened their business "Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic." "We weren't exactly received well in the medical community with a lot of congratulations," Dr. Smith says about the start of Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic. "There were a lot of comments. We received ribbing from the established medical community, but we got a lot of encouragement from lay people, from banks and churches and the paper telling us that this was a great thing for Amarillo."

Despite their dreams, theirs was a modest beginning. For three years Dr. Milton officed in the basement. "It was as big as this desk," he says pointing at his file-covered desk. Dr. Smith and Dr. Duke had offices on the third floor and their X-ray facility was on the second floor. They burned a lot of calories running stairs. "Now," Dr. Milton recalls "we were the only internists with X-ray equipment of any substance." After three years the doctors had developed an extensive patient and referral list. But now they needed more room, more doctors, and better facilities. "We looked at many different locations in Amarillo," Dr. Smith says.

They finally settled on 11 acres across from the Amarillo Medical Center on West 9th Street. "It was big-time prairie," Dr. Smith says, "but we knew that this Medical Center area (Harrington Regional Medical Center) would become the medical services hub of the entire five-state area." This plot of land has now been the home of Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic for over 40 years.

Very unhappy with Dr. Ellington. It takes him over two weeks to read test results and the several days to let you know. I felt like I was just another $ for him. Do not recommend him at all. I am changing Doctors. Also office staff is horrible. It's like they don't want to be there or help.
Called for appt. w/neurologist. On hold 9 minutes. That's fine. They are busy. Young woman answered. Asked for appt. with Milligan for family member. I have been a patient of his and I am a patient of Dr. Mitchells at ADC. Was told abruptly I had to have a referral. I explained the appt would be for a family member, and I would get a referral but I would like to see about my having a short consultation with the doctor beforehand. She repeated impatiently I would need a referral. I asked her if I would need a referral for consulting as I would not be the patient or how that worked. She treated me as if I had crawled out from under her sink. As a communications educator, I would encourage the ADC to seek a communication specialist to help train staff before their rating drops to a one star. This after they cost me thousands of dollars because last summer when they themselves they did not do a referral to Dr. Klein correctly and my insurance didnt pay. People having medical issues with family members do not need rudeness added to their day by an incompetent employee.
We love the Doctor & we love the Nurses, but the man who answered the call sounded young, don’t know if was, but he was very rude and irritable towards me. His tone was very sarcastic. There was no reason he should have acted like that, I didnot imean to call and cause him to be that way. I just worried I wasn’t taking the correct steps, as the audio answering machine stated if you wanted an appt that day then push that number. I had called previously, but was thinking maybe I should have done that to take correct steps. I told him thank you and he hung the phone up with no answer. Should not be working with public!!
Now I understand why the reviews are horrible for this place! They don't even have 3 stars! I was in to see my Dr in November for a check up and it went well so he wanted to see me again in 6 months. Well, I find out that I don't even have an appointment because they didn't even make one for me and they can't schedule me for more than 2 months from now. I can't wait that much longer! They also told me they don't have any of my records any longer because I haven't been there in so long 11/29/21 and it's now a new year so now I have to wait to get an appointment. They told me they would call me back and never did. They aren't helping me at all to get in to see my Dr when they were the ones that horribly failed at the simple task of correctly making my appointment. This isn't the first time they have completely messed up my appointment, this time they have really put me out and they don't even care! I really like my Dr so this isn't about him at all! BTW I'm not one that leaves bad reviews because I don't like to do that!
The staff is extremely helpful, professional, & kind. The mask policy is ridiculous, even "Lord Fauci" & his minions admit it was only the only thing that they could do to give people a sense that they were on top of things but essentially have no effectiveness in stopping the virus. STOP LIVING IN FEAR, WE'RE TEXANS BY THE GRACE OF GOD & I TRUST HIM, NOT government!
I absolutely love BSA Amarillo Diagnostic Center. Dr. Pay is the best doctor for me in Amarillo. I will keep him for as long as I am alive. Thanks Adrian ! Your the best.
I came in to your clinic for a routine checkup this morning and was told I had to wear a mask. If I had known this was in effect I would have rescheduled the appointment. I have been to other specialist lately and this was not required. I will not even go into the efficacy of the non n-95 mask I was given to wear. I visited with several of the employees who are obviously also frustrated with this policy but have to have a job. I am done with the attempts to control people by forcing them to wear a mask. So far we still live in a free country and you are entitled to make rules for the patients who enter your facilities and I am entitled to decide if I want to abide by those rules or not use your services. I will monitor your policy before my next visit to decide if I will be needing to go elsewhere for my medical care.
Five hour wait every time. Desk clerk is rude. Nurses without compassion. Zero stars. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Terrible phone service! I have been on hold for well over an hour now just trying to confirm an appointment. Get nothing but a recording every couple of minutes. This is ridiculous!
Billing is horrible because my payment has been made for 602.55 to another patient's account. Who makes this kind of mistake . I'm a self-pay patient and now receiving a bill that I already paid because someone at check out made a huge mistake. This is the second mistake in billing the first was when I made a full payment after being seen that day then later billing charges me when I paid in full upfront and no extra tests or anything should have been billed. Also, I want to talk about the visits themselves. I waited very long to see them because of a referral for a condition diagnosis and then was not given any medical advice which is very disappointing, to say the least. I feel like the system has failed me. No paper on a helpful diet to help or suggestions. No advice on reversal of the condition but that's what they are here to help with.
