We visited The Calypso today. Service was great, the restaurant was clean, and the food was pretty good. We didn't have any cocktails today but the ones we saw go out looked amazing. The staff was also willing to adjust the meal for our picky kid, which was very nice. We would go back!Food: 4/5
Heard great things about this small local place in Yellow Springs. The service was good. We ordered 1. Corn fritters 4/5- were a bit chewy for my taste. I like them a bit more crunchy. 2. Shrimp pup-a-Lickle 4/5- the same batter as corn fritters. The shrimp was great. Got the yuca fries and plantains as my sides. The yuca fries were amazing. The plantains needs to be a bit sweeter. 3. The jerk chicken 4/5- the chicken was spicy and cooked well. Needed a bit more jerk flavor. I haven’t tried their BBQ though.
We loved Calypso! I had the mojito shrimp with island slaw but substituted the collard greens for the rice. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My husband's pork belly and beer cheese bowl was delicious, tender, and super filling. We split a pitcher of lime margaritas perfectly balanced and sweet tart and a chocolate rum cake not as good as everything else but still respectable. I might drive the 90 minutes just to eat lunch here one day!
We were early in the dinner wave so seating was immediate and service was fast. We intentionally ordered a ton of food knowing leftovers would be fine. There were many drinks on the menu we still want to try, as well as other food. Flavors are what you would expect in the carribean. My husband felt like one of his dishes, I forgot which one, lacked salt, but all the other dishes made up for it. The spice level is low, even what they call "hot", I think that's typical. I didn't need the yuca fries since my meal came with plantains and slaw, but I couldn't pass them up and glad I didn't! This place is worth repeating and if you haven't yet DO give it a chance! Vegetarian options: There are a ton of vegan and vegetarian options, sub jackfruit in most dishes too. Dietary restrictions: The menu highlights several gluten free and vegan options
Excellent Jamaican restaurant in rural Ohio. Shrimp Pupa-Lickie appetizer and Jerk Pork entre with Key Lime Pie for dessert. Oh yes, and a pitcher of margaritas too.Food: 5/5
We were visiting Yellow Springs and decided to visit this restaurant based on Google recommendations. We ordered some beers, Chicken and a Mango Stewed Chicken. We loved the food.. I totally recommend it. For sure when we return to Yellow Spring, we will go to this restaurant again.Food: 5/5
It was my first visit here. Best restaurant in Yellow Springs! The food and service were outstanding. I had a pain killer cocktail and garlic shrimp with coconut rice for lunch. Full cocktail bar available. Everything was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend coming here! Food: 5/5
Came here my first time for Mother's Day dinner. It was very busy around 2:00 pm. Our server was great. I ordered the Oxtail stew and corn fritters appetizer. The stew was hot and delicious. The pineapple daiquiri was so good. I ordered the Mac & cheese, coconut rice and collard greens for take home.Food: 5/5
After visiting John Bryon State Park, this was a fantastic way to refresh and relax. The food was authentic and enjoyable, and the Margherita pitcher was LEGIT. Can't wait to come back. For the middle of the day, they weren't as busy as the staff seemed to visit, but the food was incredible. I got the spicy Jerk Shrimp entree.
The food was Amazing! The drinks were delish... everything here is fresh and so yummy. It is a treasure in our area. We love it! Ohh and try the key lime pie and chocolate coconut mouse.Food: 5/5
