GSOFCT had a family campout at this camp over the weekend. The camp is very nice. The waterfront and swimming area was centrally located and well maintained. The tents were on raised platforms and slept 4 comfortably. While some of the sites were up hills, the kids felt they were not difficult to climb Some parents complained- this is New England and hills are always present. The mess hall/camp chow hall was a beautiful building. Food was very good. I'm hoping this camp continues to stay open and girl scouts can continue to enjoy it for years to come.
Do not stay here. Make adults prove they can swim to go into the water, snakes and leeches everywhere. cabins were so gross, had to remove all the spider webs. The porta potty was the nicest place there. Oh and lets not forget about the cabin they had us stay in with the roof falling in. $40/per is insane for this place, left early.
Appreciated - hard work from management, councillors and staff!
Great campground. We had a lot of fun hiking and spent sometime on the Kayak.
Beautiful campground with archery, Kayaking and other things to do besides camping
Dropped my child off on great terms. 5 days later the cops where meeting me there not even halfway through her 2 week experience. DCF has called me and several other parents in reguards to abuse claims now. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Here is a review that might surprise you. I went to this camp 50 years ago when I was 14 and 15. Stay two weeks each time and had the time of my life. I wish I was a kid again so I could go camping here again. Your child will have a blast here. The camp grounds have changed a little, but the main house is still the same and if I remember correctly, the lake always had a red tinge to water. My tent was in Knoll. Great place!
My daughter attended the horse back riding camp and absolutely loved it!! It was her first year at this camp and we weren't sure how it would go so she only attended for 1 week. When we picked her up, she was in tears because all of her new friends were staying for 2 weeks. She can't wait to go back again next year!
This place sucked. Worst experience of my life. They would not let me call home and lacked support and lied to my mom.
Sent my kid here for "Resident Camp" on a three day try it program. When she came home she reported that camp was, AWESOME! me I'm a little more reserved. During her time there my daughter was fed eight meals, that was three evening meals, three breakfasts, and two lunches by her report none of these meals was hot dogs and hamburgers, and while not gourmet meals, they were quite good. Activities included the typical camp games with swimming and other water activities included, swimming was in the lake. There is an on site medical staff with either a Nurse or and EMT sometimes both on site at all times and these people do the first aid and handle giving kids that need medication their medication. All girls are checked for lice and have their temperature taken upon arrival for safety of all campers. Overall the camp does not have that dated feeling, I believe that has more to do with proper maintenance and upkeep of the facilities than their age, you would be hard pressed to find something that wasn't working, cleaned, or painted recently. If you want to know where that fifth star went I will tell you. Check in is kind of a pain here. We had to check in at no less than four places and I think that might have been at least two too many. The first place we checked in could have been changed to a person that asked if you were checking in and then told you where to park and where to walk to for actual check in and health check, instead they were providing and checking a lot more information here than they should have been. This first check in was causing cars to be backed up onto the road and that was unsafe. The second check in station could could have had a far shorter line if they simply added a sign telling people they only had to check in there if they were having their luggage transported. The third check in station was where you really checked in and got your health check. This station was well run and fairly organized considering the staff was on their game, but girls and parents were like a bag of cats, they had all the answers here and were doing a great job checking people in, directing them, and moving moving them on to the correct destinations. This was the check in station that Girl Scouts should be proud of. Final check in was at the campsite, this where you got your cabin assignment. Parents were allowed and encouraged to help their children to setup their bunk. My only complaint about this area is that they should have told people to setup their bunk then change into swimwear for the swim test. If GSofCT can streamline the check in process, and they are really close, I will come back and give them that fifth star. Overall my kid wants to return next year and we will be sending her again.
