Cannon Beach Library

About

Serving residents & visitors since 1927... we are a private, non-profit library staffed by volunteers & full time manager that receives minimal tax dollars

Description

Organized by eight women in October 1927, the group was originally named the Cannon Beach Civic Club. Cannon Beach was then a small village of about fifty families and the women felt that a congenial social group was needed that could also do worthwhile things for the community. A library was their first order of business. Minnie Nicholson was the first club president and was later know as the “Mother of the Cannon Beach Library.”

In November the club joined the Oregon Traveling Library program through the Oregon State Library and received 54 books to help start the library. For the first year the books were stored on three shelves in the local variety store, La Rose Shop. By late 1928 the Library had grown enough to rent its own space in the Gerritse Building. A plaque was placed on the building honoring the first home of the Cannon Beach Library.

In 1945 the library moved from the Gerritse Building to a small cottage on Second Street. 10 years later, with donations and community support, the library purchased the building and continued in that location for the next 20 years. In 1976 the library was dedicated in its present location, and in 1997 the children’s room addition was built.

The library is a private, nonprofit organization staffed by volunteers and a full-time office manager, and supported by fundraising events, used book sales, and donations. Generous support from our volunteers and donors has made library services possible for Cannon Beach, Tolovana Park and Arch Cape residents and visitors for 90 years.

Services and programs include: eBooks, internet access, free WIFI, book sale room, interlibrary loan, NW Author Series, Haystack Rock Awareness Program lectures, Cannon Beach Reads book club, and a variety of children’s programs.

Family cards are just $10.00 for the year!

Mission

The mission of the Cannon Beach Library is to be a resource for books and other reading materials for community use; to promote literacy and love of reading within the community; and to sponsor activities that build fellowship in the community.

"We are celebrating over 90 years serving residents and visitors of Cannon Beach and Arch Cape. Our Library is at the center of the community. Books for all ages and interests are only the start. We offer an inviting place to discover new books, read current newspapers, check email, meet with friends, browse our ongoing book sale room, and, if you are a visitor, get information about the area."

Such a wonderful Library. Everyone here is just so very nice and they have children books here aswell too ! Great place to bring the children actually. And they have a few areas to relax and read peacefully. I love it here and cannot wait to be back.
It's such a cozy and friendly place. Love it!
Amazing library and community volunteers. So cozy and welcoming. They even had a fireplace to sit by. We absolutely loved visiting
Small but nice library. Small area with used books for sale. Space to sit and read. No restrooms, but public restrooms are available nearby.
Neat aesthetic. Has a gas fireplace and large study table. Very cramped with little selection but it's a small town so no big. The staff are very chatty, kinda noisy. They allow people to eat loudly and even gave someone a large platter of food rite next to me. Probably wouldn't have been so annoying if I had eaten today. Couldn't think over the chewing and my stomach grumbling.
Looking for a good book or information about the area, Cannon Beach Library is a great place to visit. The volunteer staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the Holiday Tea and the Fall Festival. Check out their website for year round events. Enter the quilt drawing too.
Great little library! The fact that we can check out books on vacation is amazing. Our family loves this place.
