This hotel is in poor condition. Needs a total renovation. We could not wait to leave. We moved from the room we reserved because the bedsprings were broken. Every turn would have kept us awake. The electrical sockets were so loose that our charging devices would not stay in the outlets. Second room: dirty wall paper from the 80s, cracked tile floors, old toilet with no pressure, shutter style bathroom sliding panels that needed a deep dusting/cleaning and a rotted wood hand rail that was duct taped to keep it from further rot leading up to the roof top deck, unbelievably. The only thing this hotel had going for it was the location. We were a block to the ocean and the roof top deck would have been more enjoyable if the chairs hadn't been so broken. I will say the cleaning women did their best considering the poor condition of this property. Breakfast was packaged junk muffins that we did not touch. We did not drink coffee either. This was way overpriced for the condition and decay.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, they were able to accommodate an extension in our stay for a reasonable price. We loved the location and view from the top. The lodge needs a little TLC, but the rooms were clean and spacious. Walkability: Walking distance to the beach.
This is in a nice area with easy beach access. The room itself was pretty terrible. We stayed in the Paradise room, the theme is beachy which is cute but it smells musty and mildewed and the kicker was a sewage smell coming from the drain in front of the toilet in the bathroom. It permeated the entire room. We finally covered it up with a towel which helped. The bed was also terrible, broken springs and very squeaky, made it hard to sleep. The rooftop area is also dangerous; there was a place on it when we were walking around that my boyfriend almost went through a part of it, when he turned to look at what happened he realized it was kind of blocked off-not enough to be obvious, no caution sign or tape. I would not recommend this place-maybe some rooms are fine but I will never try this hotel again. So many hotel options, this one needs some work.
This place is a hidden gem. such personal hassle-free service and so close to everything. The rooftop viewing deck is a great place to hang out and watch the waves.
Great boutique style hotel with the most amazing roof-top views!. Property is older and needs updating, but the location can not be beat.
The staff was all very helpful and made us feel very welcome. The Lodge served exactly what we needed. The bed was comfortable and the snacks provided in the morning were perfect for our train ride home. Bathroom and shower were solid. The only thing I'd change are the lights in the rooms; it felt pretty dark but that's a bit nit picky.
We had the most special staff in Cardiff. The staff are very friendly and even helped to carry our bags up. All the rooms are decorated with a different theme. Everything is walking distance and there is even a lovely rooftop to enjoy your free coffee/tea. Will most definitely be staying here again when we visit!
I'd stay here again as it's so close to the beach and restaurants and stores. Easy to walk. The roof top was a great place to read or watch the beach even in the evening. FUN structure and good size for boutique hotel. The rooms are themed, we had Victorian, not my favorite type of decor but we had a little beach view. The only reason I'm not giving higher rating was the room is a bit tired, wallpaper peeling in corners etc. AND no door between toilet and sink or bedroom, just a flimsy 3-part hanging divider that came off the rungs a few times. Sounds worse than was! Slight cobwebs on lampshade but rest seemed clean. Again, fun sized hotel with Great location and roof top views.
My husband and I had to get away for the weekend, from the kids, family, and life, so we last minute booked our stay here, and loved that they allowed us a late checkout, as we arrived late Friday evening- and even though we arrived late, the Best Pizza restaurant was open for outdoor, under the heater eating and drinking amazing beers on tap, including some really good pizza! There was a choice of restaurants, all on that same intersection, which is just above the beach! We enjoyed the rooftop jacuzzi, and the incredible under-the-stars, beach view! This lodge is truly a lodge and feels like you stepped back in time as if you're in a snow lodge, but they were very clean and professional. We'll do this again!
My Husband and I recently enjoyed a 3-night stay at the lodge and surrounding the Encinitas community. The rooms are a bit "uncommon" but that is a part of the fun. Behind the whimsy of our room, it was clean, bright and airy. The location could not be more ideal - in less than 2-minutes, we were able to walk to coffee shops, restaurants and the walking path. Free parking is provided in a covered garage that is directly underneath the lodge. If you have time, check out the upper deck - the sunset views are truly beautiful and should not be missed.
