Dental care office at tangle-wood is nice. Staff polite and sweet to kids. Dr. Christina Miller takes a lot of time off . We've had appointments cancelled a few times due to her taking time off. Have to wait 6 months to be seen, rescheduled but that's the wait time. Staff even stated she likes to take time off. I have them a 4 star because the rest of the staff is good. Dr. Miller needs to decide if she wants to work or not. Just an opinion I have.
Took my grandchild for her cleaning a month ago, got there to be told the dentist was out sick & they would need to reschedule….we’ll understand able but it took months to get in and then they scheduled her another month out! Staff was rude up front like they don’t want to be bothered. Then took her back for her cleaning today, same staff up front who have the rudest attitude! When going to the back for her cleaning the dental hygienist was nice and understood a five year old has anxiety as this was new to her. But the lady dentist showed her the sharp object and said now be quiet I have to count your teeth and if you move this will poke and hurt! You scared her right out of her seat! She was petrified. I have been to many dentists with my now grown children who have treated them like kids and understood how to talk to them…but this was awful experience for her and I, and I wonder what happens when a parent doesn’t go back with their little ones. Shame Carilion on you for not hiring caring, understanding dentists!!
We had a great first visit today! All of the staff was kind, helpful, and made my 6yr old completely comfortable on her visit. Dr. Jones was great, his assistant was friendly and accommodating. I am surprised at some of the other reviews. The paperwork was normal for a visit to any Doctors office. I was able to go with my daughter and was assured I would be with her for future appointments as well. The kind lady at check out was so very sweet to my daughter..even giving her a little stuffed animal my daughter admired. We had a great experience.
When I scheduled the appointment for my boys, they never mentioned infants couldn't go in the rooms. I even told them on the phone I had a newborn. Never once was it mentioned. I drove over a hour! To get here and be told my newborn in a tula completely covered up, can't go back with me due to covid! Are you serious. I wish they would have told me when we were on the phone the 3 times they called me. Then want to get rude with me because I dont want my small child to go back by himself!
I live 1 hour and 20 mins from Roanoke. It has definitely been worth the drive to take my daughter to this dentist!! She has anxiety and she just didn't trust the hygienist or dentist in a local office. Wonderful and caring staff!!
I have been bringing my children here 12 years. I have been very happy with the care provided to my children. As one of the few dental clinics in this area that accept Medicaid. They do on occasion get busy but normally my children are called back quickly. All of the doctors and hygienists are friendly and take the time to explain any issues and answer any question. Jac who is one of the receptionists is always helpful. She always calls me and my children by name. I have recommended this clinic to many and will continue to do so.
I haven’t experienced anything but terrible communication. My son is two years old and he fell on his front tooth last week. Now his tooth is turning black. Anyway I have been leaving messages and nobody was returning my calls. I call back today and press 1 and the receptionist tells me they aren’t accepting new patients. Which is fine. But her delivery wasn’t the greatest. Just real short and rude. I use to be a dental assistant so I’m praying this tooth turns back to it’s normal color soon. I’m kind of glad this happened with this office. I know not to bring my child here ever. He doesn’t deserve it! Please wish me luck parents. I’m trying everywhere.
I was very nervous to take my 4 year old son to this dental office based on reviews when I made his appointment. Thankfully, my experience was different than many of those reviews. I was told by a different dental office that my son had a cavity. When we attempted to have it filled at that office, he experienced severe anxiety and would not cooperate. I wanted to try Carilion Pediatric Dental with a small hope that it would work out. My son and I only waited about 20 minutes before he was called back. The dental assistant was very tender and kind to my 4 year old, although he was so nervous he wouldn't even sit in the dental chair. After speaking with the assistant, Dr. Miller came into the room. This lady is a dental angel! She took her time with my son. Before I knew it he had bonded with her and was completely comfortable with opening his mouth and letting her look around. She informed me that he did not have a cavity and that his tooth never formed properly. We made an appointment to have the tooth repaired. I must admit, I thought she wouldn't be able to pull it off. To my amazement, she did! He let her put the laughing gas on his face, not one tear. She rubbed his hair, spoke in a very calm voice and told him many times she was proud of him while she was busy working on his tooth. She even pretended to battle a "sugar bug" while she was drilling the tooth. When it was all done she gave him a big hug. I have never done an online review but I felt it was important for other parents to know how amazing this dentist is. I wanted to give examples of how she made this a positive experience so parents of children with dental anxiety understand that it is possible for a dentist to be patient and help your child overcome the fear. Side note... I read a few reviews stating that you were not allowed to go back with your children, I sat in the room with my son for both of his appointments.
I want to start out by saying that I really want to give 5/5 stars for the clinicians here because they have been wonderful to my family-but will give it 3/5 stars due to other issues I have had concerns about regarding scheduling, forms they expect me to sign, etc. I have a special needs kid and was referred here several years ago by our pediatrician. I have been wanting to contribute a review but have concerns about anonymity due to the possibility that it could effect the care given to my child. One of my friends from our Autism FB group pointed out that someone had finally posted about the issues surrounding the Carilion Clinic forms for their dental pediatric clinic. There are several of us moms/caregivers that have expressed our concerns about the "Behavior Management" portion that we all signed. I have discussed this with the front desk and the doctor before and both have repeatedly been apologetic and seemingly embarrassed about it. Front desk ladies last informed me that the forms "will be changing but we hear they have been caught up in legal" - whatever does that mean? I have always been able to go back and be with my child for his appointments. I have never experienced anyone there use the "techniques" that are described in their paperwork. However, I did sign and initial these forms when I first brought my son- I don't think I had much choice to be honest. So I always have concerns that these things could be used on my son by someone that doesn't understand how and why he acts the way he does.
This was our first visit here today and my son was so nervous, Marci was able to calm him down and he wasn’t nervous any longer. Such a friendly group of people! It’s very clean and they’re very informative! Thank you Marci for being so awesome!
