Hello! This is an official Facebook page of the Japanese Program at Carthage College!
Are you interested in speaking a language that is very different from your own? Do you want to add an important language skill to your resume? Are you a fan of manga and anime? Have you thought about living/studying in a country with an amazing mixture of exciting pop culture and ancient traditions? If your answer to any of these questions is “yes,” then the Japanese program at Carthage is for you.
Japanese has become one of the most widely taught foreign languages in the United States. It has critical importance in a wide range of professions and interests, including politics, business, education, and technology.
The Japanese Program
The core of the Carthage Japanese program is the four-year language curriculum. The goal of the Japanese program is to help students develop proficiency in Japanese in a socio-cultural context. Students not only gain fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Japanese, but they also acquire a deep understanding of Japanese people and culture.
Study Abroad
Japanese majors are required to study in Japan for a minimum of six months. Tokyo Gakugei University is Carthage’s official exchange program in Japan.
J-Term
Travel to Japan on a month-long study tour led by professors from various departments who specialize in Japanese society. The study tours provide students opportunities to have direct contact with Japanese people and culture. (https://www.carthage.edu/january-term/)
