Dr. Hansen completed a clinical fellowship in Sexual Medicine after conclusion of residency in obstetrics and gynecology. Sexual Medicine includes all aspects of sexual health, including low sexual desire, orgasmic disorders, pelvic pain, marital issues, family planning and menopausal assessment and treatment. After completing a Master’s of Public Health at Johns Hopkins she put her training to work in a rural community in Canada as a solo practitioner from 2002-2009. She was actively involved in education, research and Public Health initiatives in her community and the surrounding area. Through this work, she promoted up-to-date care and quality assurance for the region.
Joining UTMB in November 2010, Dr. Hansen became an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Pelvic Health and Continence Center housed in the Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes. The Pelvic Health Center brings together urogynecology, urology, colon and rectal surgery, gastroenterology, physiotherapy and psychology along with Dr. Hansen’s comprehensive gynecologic services and sexual health expertise. This work is continued with an academic and clinical appointment at UTMB.
Previous work with the Pelvic Health research group focused on how sexual function is affected by, or related to, chronic pelvic pain, vaginismus, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, obesity and psychosocial concerns such as body dissatisfaction, depression, anxiety and domestic violence.
Teaming with urogynecologist Dr. Muir, Dr. Hansen was instrumental in initiating a community education series called The Lunch Bunch at UTMB, Victory Lakes that reaches out locally with powerful, useable, safe and effective health and wellness information for women of all ages and stages of life.
Dr. Hansen has been interviewed by multiple media outlets including LifeScript.com, Self.com, Fit Pregnancy, Women’s Health Magazine and has been a regular contributor to The Galveston Daily News and runs a column for women in Life Is Good! Magazine.
Married to Canadian Astronaut, Jeremy Hansen, and blessed with a 10 year old son and twin 8 year old daughters, the entire family is enjoying all that life has to offer in the Clear Lake area.
Dr. Hansen takes an active and passionate role in the health and quality of life of the patients and the community she serves. Providing scientifically-based community presentations and individualized medical care in the Clear Lake area has been both personally and professionally enriching.
