If your heart is set on coming here to visit, call before you come. I drove 6 hours out of my way to visit this specific museum. I am also a Barber and my shop is decorated decorated with all Elvis. So this was extra sentimental to me. I planned my vacation around this visit. I was so sad to arrive an hour before closing and no one was around. I saw a small sign in the window.
SO GREAT. Honestly, the best part was speaking with Lance, a volunteer there. He was so great to speak with and gave us amazing service! There are actually 2 museums and theyre both amazing and worth checking out. We learned so much. This is also a great stop for Elvis fans. Honestly, this should be made into a national historic site or something.
I have not personally been there in many moons! I just happen to be reminiscing old days with my Grandfather. I remember in the mid to late 80s. I got to help my Grandfather who was re-roofing all the barrics in Fort Chaffee. I got to get a hair cut here. The good old days. I remember them firing a cannon sometimes to for some ceremony or something. Sorry to be so vague. I might have been 9-10 yrs old.
Located within the grounds of Fort Chaffee Joint Maneuver Training Center, Fort Smith, AR, it previously was an active barbershop. It's also the barbershop where Elvis received his military haircut! The museum is stuffed full of military memorabilia. You can also sit and watch military and wartime movies. The staff is so friendly and accommodating.
Interesting place. I was a little disappointed though that the museum was not open when we stopped but it was a holiday weekend so it makes sense why it was closed.
Loved visiting the Chaffee Barbershop. My dad worked there in the 50's! It is truly a timeline of the time Elvis was stationed at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas. Wonder just how many military men and women, and legal refugees have been in that barbershop!
Just love. Not a fan of Elvis but loved the information that was given
Took a walk down memory lane.... With a staff member "Skipp". He was so nice and told us a lot of stories that will be lost in time someday : . Great place to visit!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entryFree
This Barbershop Museum is where Elvis got his 1st military haircut. If you are an Elvis fan, you will appreciate this place.
Good piece of history about the fort and Elvis' haircut.
