Street, sewer and water infrastructure exists throughout the property. FCRA partners with the cities of Fort Smith and Barling onnew infrastructure projects. Chaffee Crossing is also the site of Arkansas' only Wetlands MItigation Bank.
Businesses located at Chaffee Crossing enjoy easy access to Interstate 40, Interstate 49 and Interstate 540. A section of future I-49 (AR 549) connecting Canada to the Gulf Coast at New Orleans passes through the heart of Chaffee Crossing. Construction of a 6.5 mile segment through the property was completed in July 2015. It connects AR Hwy. 22/59 in Barling to US 71 south of Fort Smith.
Nineteen residential developments have been in a state of constant construction since 2008. These include single-family, multi-family and commercial residential facilities.
FCRA donated 200 acres to the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education for a new College of Osteopathic Medicine that will open in August 2017. UAFS, ATU-Ozark and other educational organizations are represented at Chaffee Crossing.
Tourists enjoy visiting the Chaffee Barbershop Museum where Elvis Presley received his famous G.I. haircut. This museum and the Museum of Chaffee History are located in a Historic District which is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The original Fort Chaffee barbershop has been restored to the same condition it was on March 23, 1958 when Elvis first walked through the door. An annual "Hair Cut Day" celebration commemorates that day in March.
Amenities in the community include the Janet Huckabee River Valley Nature Center, fishing and canoeing on Wells Lake, Deer Trails Country Club and Golf Course, soccer, softball, McClure Amphitheater, Darby RV Park, hiking, biking and walking trails as well as many acres of open land to explore and enjoy nature.
Chaffee Crossing is managed by the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority, a trust and governing board of directors established to oversee the development of 7,000 acres turned back to the public from Fort Chaffee in 1997.
