It's an amazing place. Very nice hiking trails. I would recommend enjoying the sunset there. We have seen lots of people fishing at the lake. This forest preserve is worth exploring.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
Nice place for hiking, not very far from UIUC, ~25 min driving
A great place to go for a hike, take a shorter stroll, have a picnic, or do a little fishing. Beautiful preserve that we're lucky to have in Champaign County. My kids and I took a nice hike on a weekday afternoon and when we arrived there weren't many other people there. Even when more people are present, it's easy to feel separated from urban life along the trails here. Our trail took us through both woods and an open prairie full of wildflowers. We startled one deer, and saw lots of birds and butterflies. If hiking isn't your thing, you can walk along the paved roads, just be mindful of approaching vehicles and keep to the side.
Peaceful relaxation in a scenic outdoor setting. Considering my most recent visit was on a weekday, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many kayakers and/or canoeists out on the water. There also seemed to be someone sitting on most of the docks, many of whom had a line in the water. Personally, I’m just thankful to have such a beautiful lake and park that’s easy to explore and seems to offer a photo op from just about every vantage point.
Homer lake is an incredible hiking, fishing and boating spot!. It's only 27 minutes from champaign and super well maintained. If you want to go on the water but don't have a kayak, canoe etc. I'd suggest renting from lunatic kayak rental!. Homer also has awesome picnic areas and is great to visit all seasons.
Great little nature preserve. A couple of shorter trails and a great play-scape for kids. Park at the first parking area just to the right when you enter, and take the trail that’s straight across the road. It’s a short walk through a nice wooded stretch, which then leads to the lake and play scape area.
Beautiful forest and lake. I was very impressed by the nature center, it's small, but probably the best I've been in central Illinois with many displays for kids. It also seems that they have multiple activities for the community throughout the year. I highly recommend this place
A beautiful and quiet place to spend some time alone, and good for hiking as well. Restrooms: Restrooms are available. Not so clean, but okay. And in average condition as per park restrooms
We really enjoyed the flowing water Creek. There is also a very large and clean sand pit, and a climbing play area. We enjoyed it for about 2hrs with a 2 and 4 yr old. Lots of little Blue Gill and minnows move in and out of the play water. The kids love to watch them. Water shoes were really nice on the kids, but lots of kids didn't wear them and didn't seem to mind.
Great place, pretty and lots of variety. The paths are well maintained and the lake is perfect for kayaking.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
