Mission Statement for the Charleston Parks and Recreation Department:
"It shall be the mission of the Charleston Parks and Recreation Board to provide opportunities for wholesome recreational activities that relate to the needs and desires of all citizens, to conserve our natural resources, and to be the guardian of quality environment for our citizens and encourage the creation, restoration, and preservation of aesthetic values in our community.
Consistent with this purpose and objective, every opportunity shall be afforded through taxation, fees and charges, and other revenue sources, within financial limits, plan procure, develop and maintain park and recreational resources and to provide leadership for the wise and satisfactory use of leisure time.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board shall endeavor to provide such services at the least possible cost and without duplicating the efforts of other agencies in Charleston."
