I would PASS on the fish sandwich... Had high hopes for the food. Fish sandwich was not a good choice what so ever. It was definitely a frozen patty that they fried and threw on some rye bread and charged $12 for it. Also, its a la carte so no sides... My fiance got the Buffalo chicken sandwich which was a better choice. The fries on hers were the best thing, good crunch, and great taste. The environment and community is why you come here. Reminds me of an old school diner. Great service and fantastic personality from the staff. And the people here all know each other and it's a real close community I can tell. So enjoy the experience and hope it is so good it helps you over look the food.
I got roast beef gravy, mashed potatoes with Mac n cheese. The mashed potatoes were so so dry even with the gravy. The roast geef looked more like old turkey. It was chewy and pasty. Mac n cheese seemed out of a box, dry. My SO had a Reuben. He liked it. Did not like the spicy sauce that came with the onion rings. Cheesesticks had a good flavor, a bit salty tho. You order up front. Menu is on a big TV on the wall. The staff were behind the counter talking about another staff member. Please don't do that in front of customers. It's not nice.
1st timer and it was amazing. Staff was super friendly but not in a weird way in a really cool pleasant way. We were celebrating a friend's birthday with some old and new friends. It's always a good hang with us. Will definitely be back.Food: 5/5
First time here, great experience minus the parking. Cheesesteak and Ruben were excellent. Service was good they were very busy for Monday lunch time. Definitely worth a visit.Recommended dishesOnion Rings
Really good food! Such a cute little area, we sat outside and it was so peaceful with a sweet church bell that rang on the hour.Food: 5/5
Never disappoints! I got the fried bologna sandwich, side of green beans, and onion rings. I was like 10 bucks and more than I could eat! My friend got the fish nuggets and they were way better than I thought they were gonna be! She couldn't finish hers either! The whole menu sounds delicious! I'll be back to try something different next time!
I really wanted to like this place, but alas…can’t do it. The food was over the top greasy, it took 25 minutes for them to make a chili dog for my wife that was drowning in chili and the bun was soggy city. I ordered the Ruben and the meat was tough as was the sauerkraut. The bread was really greasy, fries were really greasy. The customer service was non-existent. If you wanted a refill you had to get back in line and ask for it. The crowd was made up of the oldest people in Louisville. Mostly the 70 and up crowd. Sorry, but we definitely won’t be back. If you’re looking for a great dinning experience,…this isn’t it.
Went to checks todayto watch the footbaal game. Sat at the bar. Young man got me a beer then i got ignored. Nobody even asked if i wanted to order food. But other costomers where ask. Magen is the worst bartender there. Allways ignores people at the bar. Needs to put her phone up spends more time on it then waiting on costomers.
The atmosphere and location is the only thing that was good!! I was super excited to try something different but very disappointed with my food... I ordered the catfish it could have been cooked a little longer my breading was falling off of my fish which made me leery. Thinking it may not have been cooked all the way!! my macaroni tasted like something that someone whipped up from a kraft box... the only thing that was good was the onion rings and of course you can't go wrong with those..
I was actually giving a job detail here for a security company that I work for, but there was miscommunication and some misunderstanding on either my boss's part or checks cafe. Either way the people were still friendly and nice, they were having a Blues Festival that they put on every year right outside the bar in the middle of the street, as well as the atmosphere is very smooth and easy going. Everybody seemed happy to be there and not like they were forced to come hang out. Look it up, you'll probably like it! Check's Cafe.
