This is my all time favorite library, so well laid out, such an immense volume of books, good selection of dvds, audio books, a nice young adult section, and used books and movies for sale. All of this set in a beautiful brick building in the heart of downtown. Nice place to study or research, bring your kids, you will both have a great experience.
My brother was discriminated by Kia, an associate at this library, due to him being wheelchair bound. My brother is 22 years old and a high school graduate but just because he’s wheelchair bound the associate, Kia, informed me he had to have “a responsible adult” sign for his books. What makes him not a responsible adult? She claims that’s what her supervisor Tammy advised her and I let it be known that the only way “Tammy” would advise that was if she said there was something wrong with my brother. Which she did not ask me at all just made an assumption, which I am not okay with at all. Shame on you Sheppard Memorial Library. Being in a wheelchair does not mean you’re not your own guardian. I will be speaking to someone higher about this. And when I asked for a complaint sheet and advised that I would be more comfortable giving it to a different person or a supervisor she got snooty with me. Poor customer service all around. She picks and chooses when she wants people to check out books because we had no issue when we came 2 weeks ago.
I have just recently bought few CDs and few DVDs during the spring and summer! And if there's any more, I will be buying them!
This library has toddler reading time most days of the week at 11:30am. I use the wheelchair ramp and door opener to push my kids with the double stroller into the library. There a bulletin board in the front of the library advertising jobs and opportunities as well as a conference room. The bathroom was clean but the baby changing table was not which is normally the place just about everywhere I go. The kids library is 5 stars. We were there for hours and were welcomed. We met other parents and caregivers and my kids who are too young for school were able to socialize and make friends. They build a train with other kids, pieced together puzzles and of course learned pre-reading skills. The staff is patient and great with the kids. Lots of smiling faces. On the adult side of the library I did meet a lady who offered me her card as she assumed I was a struggling single mom. I declined but she insisted. I don’t trust people who take a special interest in me and my children as their is a lot of kidnapping going on by way of government agencies and their extensions. She seemed to lurk around their frequently looking for distressed families to take advantage of as she stated that she sees a lot of single moms there. My instinct gave me a bad vibe that she was not ok to talk to.
Beautiful building with quiet areas and friendly people. Have great programs for free like computer classes, assistance with job searching.
I needed a computer for my Zoom interview. I didn't know I could get a laptop from the Sheppard memorial library. I asked the lady ar the desk and sure enough I could. As long as I had a library card. Wonderful and beautiful
Okay because one of the keyboard had the letter a, and s not visible on the keyboard. I know so many people uses them but come on now. The receptions was nice and fast this time around. However I have not been in over 3 years or more so maybe my expectations are a bit high in these times as Covid19 is real.
This is a great library. It has an awesome children's library with plenty of books for all ages, kid friendly computers, learning toys and special programs. The staff are really helpful and seem happy to be working there. My son LOVES going to the library. I'm happy that even as a little boy he can associate the library as a fun place to be. The only thing that would make this library better is cleaner/nicer bathrooms. The bathrooms here are a little scary and outdated rust everywhere. But maybe my standards are too high.
A very nice and clean place. Great environment for some serious reading and researching on books
Most fantastic library I have visited ever. Staff was very helpful and nice many great subjects to read, very nice.
