Avoid this resort specifically Condo 2321, our stay was full of bed bugs, a filthy room, and a staff that was unwilling to help until things got bad. Our stay at Chula Vista involved bed bugs, a dirty room, and a staff that was reluctant to help. Be aware that the condo side of Chula Vista is partially privately owned and the staff is reluctant or unwilling to help you if your specific condo isn't technically owned by the resort. When we arrived at our room it was clear it hadn't been cleaned in some time we later found out that private owners are allowed to opt out of cleaning services. It was late, so we accepted that we'd have to stay here for the night, but we went down to the lobby to request new sheets because we found a bug on one of them. The lobby was closed, which I've never seen before at any resort or hotel, and when we went to the hotel lobby they told us they couldn't help us because that was the condo side, not their responsibility. The next morning, I woke up to a large bed bug crawling on my arm. We jumped out of bed and pulled the sheets up... and I've never seen more bed bugs in my life. There were huge ones down to tiny ones, meaning they'd been there for some time. We tried to call the condo owner, between all of us it must've been around 50 times, they never answered. We then went to the hotel lobby the condo lobby was still closed and tried to get help from the staff. They were, again, unwilling to help, telling us they couldn't do anything because the condo was privately owned. My father in law started yelling at them, telling them they needed to help us. I don't agree with yelling at any staff, but he was understandably frustrated. Then, the Director of Operations came over to help us. He quickly got our room cost refunded and moved us to another room that he inspected with my mother in law. He was very helpful and we were grateful for the new, clean room. I do feel it's important to note that we still paid for the new room. But, he at least helped us. He asked us not to write a review since the condo was privately owned, but I don't want anyone else to have to experience what we went through here. Five days later I have bites all over my hands, elbows, and neck. And on top of that, we had limited time in the Dells and half of that time was spent dealing with the resort. We really didn't get to have the vacation we had planned and needed, because the owner couldn't clean the room.
Unfortunately not a great experience at this resort. I stayed for a weekend to attend a wedding. From the moment I entered registration, every employee made is very clear that they did not like their job or the guests. I get there may be one or two employees that are not friendly but during my stay, not a one smiled, replied when I said hello or even answered questions. I asked a few questions at the front desk and only got a grunt and a "I don't no" answer. The hotel room I was given was not clean. The carpet had not been vacuumed, the furniture was older and worn out. Bed was too firm for me and the bedding had rips in it. Room had a weird smell to it. The refrigerator didn't work very well and the freezer compartment was completely frosted over and unusable. I asked about housekeeping at check in and I was told by the front desk that there was no housekeeping for my stay. I tried calling Guest Services from the room but there was no answer. I felt bad for the couple getting married. Nothing seemed to go right at the reception. The bathroom facilities were horrible and hadn't been attended for some time. No toilet paper in the women's room. Appetizers ran out and many guest did not get anything to eat until the dinner was served. The buffet was setup 30 minutes early and the staff would not let anyone touch it since the bridal couple should go first. That's normal except the couple was off getting photos. By the time people could eat, the food was cold and not very appetizing. When the issue was bought up to the resort staff they just said they don't have enough employees to handle the wedding. The resort is on the river and there is a nice walk long the back of the facility. It is also now pet friendly so that is why I gave it a 1 star. It is also north of the Dells and you don't have to go near the crazy busy downtown area which is nice.
It was a last minute trip with the family, and it all worked out great. Wasn't super fancy, but it wasn't bottom of the barrel by any means. The under ground tunnel to the water park was super nice, since it's the winter. Cost of a waterpark day pass vs staying the night and getting a pass automatically made it financially an easy choice! It's a few miles out off the downtown area, but overall a great trip and great value.
I've never had a good experience here. Only visit for work when there are conventions. The resort is very run down and needs a ton of work to get modern. The bathroom is small, mold and cracking in the ceiling, the dispensers are filled with some of the worst soaps. The beds aren't comfortable. The remote to the TV didn't work and the TV is dim and small, there was a DVD player with composite connection to TV......in 2022. The sliding door to the patio was difficult to open. On the plus side the water park was clean and did its job entertaining kids. The arcade was good too with modern games and something for everyone. The KCG restaurant buffet was very mediocre. The biscuits and gravy had a very weird taste and had onions in the gravy also....and I had a piece of metal in my gravy. In the lower conference area the doors to the outside don't close well. The bathrooms were dirty and the trash was full in this lower level also. If I am asked to work a conference at this place again I am going to absolutely refuse, too many people had issues with their rooms so I'm glad I had a mild experience compared to others. There are other resorts that are better and some that are worse so just do your homework and go with the best that your budget can afford.
Rooms are pretty average. Nothing spectacular. The water park was very nice. The arcade could use some updating and better staff. There were kids in there climbing on things and being rude. The staff didn't say a word to them. The $40 Thanksgiving buffet was definitely not worth that much money. Very disappointed. Good thing they have plenty of snack machines around. The parking lot is also a crumbling mess. Rooms: Standard rooms. They were very clean. Safety: None of the outside doors by the hotel were locked. Walkability: Its nice to walk inside to the Waterpark. Food & drinks: Snack machines were great.
I have to say, we have not been to Chula Vista since just before the pandemic. We planned to go, but after discussions with the booking agent, we realized things had changed dramatically. We used to love go there in fall/winter. They would have a great package deal, or an all inclusive deal we would get for a couple nights stay. That seems to have disappeared. We understand that prices have gone up dramatically, but the things that drew us to Chula Vista seem to have been eliminated completely. We have no problem with higher prices, but it seems that the whole operation of Chula Vista has changed, not in a family friendly way, in 2019 I would give 4 stars. In 2022, I wouldn’t want to stay there
We’ve been making the Dells area an annual family trip for 5 or 6 years now. It seems our family keeps growing so we’ve changed venues 3 times now. This year we choose Chula Vista because we could fit the entire family of 14 in one condo with an adjoining room. We arrived on a Friday around 6:00 to the condo check-in. We went inside to find signs telling us to actually check-in at the hotel room site. So some of us waited for an hour in the condo lobby while others of us waited in line 9 deep to get our condo assignment and water tickets. By 7:50 we were moved in and ready to prepare a meal prior to going to bed. Our kitchen was very sparsely supplied, not even a can opener. I’ve stayed in plenty of condo over my 60 years of life and this was the worst supplied of all of them. The tunnel to get to the water park was maybe 55 degrees at best. Extremely loud at night with other guests running up and down the hallways. Soap in 2 of the 3 bathrooms. 8 towels for 14 people. We went to one of the restaurants in the facility with our party of 14. 8 adults and 6 kids. 7 of the adults and 2 of the kids were served first and the rest of us waited. Then 2 more dinners came along and we were all finally served after 90 minutes…the last person served was my 5 year old grandson who had no idea why he had to wait while his cousins were already done. So we were two of the parties received discounted bills due to how late their food was received but the rest of us sat there the entire 90 plus minutes with no comp and a preset gratuity. Not sure how anyone deserved a gratuity. If the restaurant felt the server should have been paid a gratuity, then they should have paid it. I’m writing this review prior to our checkout tomorrow so who knows what else may happen in the next 12 hours. Save your money and your patience…go to one of the other options in the Dells…this place poorly managed and nothing but aggravation. We won’t be back and I will be sharing my experience with everyone who asks how the trip went…
We stayed 3 nights for Christmas. If you stay, don't go to the condo lobby. It's been closed since "COVID". You need to go to the main club house entry to check in. I noticed too and agree w other reviewers, there are front desk/guest service staff who don't want to be there. The first staff member I made contact w put a bad taste in my mouth right away. She was rude, no eye contact, and was annoyed and confused w having to talk to me. She also didn't know what I meant when I asked if there was side door entry. The amenities were nice, the food was good, and the hot tubs were in working order but when researching the resort, the pictures and description gives the impression it's a luxury resort but its more like, they put a luxury sticker on everything and call it the same. We stayed in the main hotel and I've definitely stayed in nicer rooms. The beds and bathroom were too small. Get a riverview view room though, the rooms on the other side are parking lot view. We enjoyed our stay but likely won't return.
The resorts are terrible! The handle on the front door, in the lobby, was missing. The floors in the libby were unbelievably sticky. Upon entering our room, we were also not thrilled. Layers of dust everywhere, the lighting is poor, the blankets are basically sheets. It's November, I would love to sleep with better blankets. The bathroom has mold around the tub. The blinds are broken and you can't even open them. But u guess when you have dirty windows, you don't want your guests to see that anyways. The heat doesn't even feel like it works. Unbelievably cold, even after turning the heat to 74. There is chipped paint on the walls, and appears that someone smashed a chair into the wall, at the breakfast table, since there's marks. The cooking utensils are melted abs gross looking. The bathroom has a broken soap dispenser, and like stated above, mold. You'd think for paying $250/ night, you'd make sure your rooms look nice! I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone, or stay here again!
Horrible, wish I could give them a zero. Stayed a week ago. On second night of stay the water in the entire villa stopped working no flushing toilets, no running water. Called the front desk was told nothing could be done, the attendant did not even care. After insisting that a supervisor be contacted and hung up on twice, he claimed the supervisor did not answer and there is no maintenance crew at night. HOW is it ethical to run a 24 hour establishment and not have anyone available for such a situation. We were not offered to be relocated or even a delivery of drinking water, nothing was done to right this unjustified wrong. Just told we would need to call back in the morning. It was as if we were all of a sudden in a third world country and it was ok to be without water, not a resort that we spent over $1,000 to stay at. Absolutely disappointed to have gone, will never go back and will spread the word to anyone and everyone to stay clear of this place! UPDATE: And still the company does not do anything to right their wrongs just they will look in to it as all the reviews show, wish I would have looked at them before hand. Again will never return to your resort, and am reporting to the BBB.
