Seventh Art Corporation of Ithaca (d/b/a Cinemapolis) is devoted to showing the best examples of the "seventh art"—films that stir our feelings, open our minds, connect us to others, and deepen our understanding of life.
Our mission is to enrich the artistic, social, and political life of our community through film. In addition to daily screenings of first run independent and art films, we enhance the viewing experience with educational opportunities such as our cinema literacy classes and pre- and post-film discussions led by members of Ithaca’s impressive academic, cultural, and human services communities. We show films that have artistic merit and which raise a broad range of issues, including those featured in the annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival. Cinemapolis has also made a strong commitment to being the community's local cinema, offering a venue for local filmmakers. Other community opportunities include those for children and high school students, allowing them to see quality films appropriate for their stage of development.
"Cinemapolis is a non-profit media arts organization, encouraging central New York residents to explore the power of film to entertain, educate, and to celebrate the human experience.Attracting more than 70,000 patrons annually, it is Central New York’s premiere art house cinema, presenting a year-round program of first-run independent, international, and locally produced films alongside special programming to engage and enrich the community.Programming at Cinemapolis is made possible in part by support from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency, the Tompkins County Tourism Program, and the generosity of hundreds of member “Cinemapolitans.”"
