This museum is worth a visit, no matter if you stay a short time or many hours! The volunteers are very gracious and passionate. We opted to have one of them tour us around the jail, where each jail cell is dedicated to a different aspect of history and culture in Clay County education, military, medicine, Cotton, business, etc. We expected more of a focus on the jail component, but the physical space itself is fascinating!
Lots of information on the history of Clay County even back to the area of northern Clay County. Lots of pictures of schools, churches, and homes. Also lots of interesting farm equipment and old tools from back in the late 1800s and early 1900s.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
Small but very nice museum. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Donations are accepted.
We spent a little over two hours touring this museum and really had a great time. Without Liz Keler and Lita Rowe who can tell you the history of the area the tour would have been interesting. But they can and did make it much more. Proof that they have been beautiful ladies all of their lives is in the tour. They will tell you about many items and how they affected their lives. They made an interesting place to see a realy great time.
Clay County Jail museum and Heritage Center is filled with Clay Co. history!!! Any and everyone should stop by Thursdays and Fridays for their own personal tour.
It was so real. Very antique setting. Wonderful experience.
