Description

Community Treasures (CT) is a 501 (C) 3 Public Charity. The Mission Statement is: “Community Treasures has been organized for charitable, educational and scientific purposes to improve the social, economic, and environmental wellbeing of our community through recycling and re-use in efficient and enterprising ways. We will promote reuse, reduction, and recycling while being committed to communication and interaction with the public. We open doors to employment and rehabilitation opportunities for difficult to place workers. We will be an advocate for environmental stewardship mentoring islanders and young people through opportunities to volunteer at Community Treasures, through community forums and programs, and through local scholarships. By working together with others, we will improve our community by our actions and contribute to a cleaner and safer place to live and work.”
CT started in 2004 through the philanthropic efforts of Frank and Patricia Penwell. Over the years, CT has evolved to become an Essential Public Facility and thrift shop that recycles over 350 tons a year. Community Treasures’ recycling facility keeps tons of materials out of the landfills. CT’s thrift shop provides goods and services to many individuals and organizations in our community.

Their prices are unbeatable. I was very impressed. Also they have virtually everything you could need there. I know if I had a specific pastry pan for a recipe that I needed I could find it there! They have lots of clothes, tools, sports equipment, and furniture! I found a teething necklace, a baby book and a nice belt there that I normally would’ve paid 40-50$ for anywhere else but I paid $4!
Largest Thrift Store in San Juan County, with very friendly staff.
Stopped in to explore after seeing a community treasures sign on the road.. who would say no to treasure? It's a big thrift store.
What would I do without this place? We are lucky to have it. And ….it’s good for the planet to recycle!!
If you're into thrifting, don't miss this place. It's very large with multiple buildings organized into different categories. You can also recycle here scrap metal $ and aluminum cans free. If you allow a good hour or two, you will most likely find a treasure.
Such a cool place. Always find a treasure
