University of Southern Maine Department of Theatre offers a broad educational foundation in the art and craft of producing and managing theatre. Areas of concentration include Performance, Design, Technical Theatre, and Dramatic Literature & Theatre History.
USM Theatre students have earned regional and national recognition through the American College Theatre Festival. The Department has traveled to the Kennedy Center on four occasions and captured national awards in performance, design, playwriting, and forensics.
USM Theatre Majors have gone on to rewarding careers in theatre, film, and television. They have worked on Broadway: Conversations with My Father, The Most Happy Fella, and The Heidi Chronicles: Films: The Big Night, Barton Fink, Blizzard of Ah's, Cool Runnings, Men in Black, Thirteen Ghosts, and Thinner: Television: Wings and Monk.
The USM Department of Theatre is a vibrant community of artists and scholars who value collaboration, imagination, and excellence. We mentor our students through their undergraduate years and prepare them for a competitive job market. At USM, Theatre majors learn by doing.
