We rented a small SUV for several days while we visited relatives in San Antonio. We enjoyed being able to get to their home and to do touristy things with them. The car was very clean and well maintained. Renting a car is never cheap, but the price was good, comparatively speaking.
If I could give negative stars I would. Customer service was by far the worst I have ever been associated with. I had made plans for my daughters wedding months in advance with transportation for the wedding party from San Antonio airport. They were stranded by the agent and told there were no more vehicles for them to rent. Kelly, the representative, was argumentative and unsympathetic of the weeding parties plight. A similar situation occurred with a active service member because her husband WHO WAS DEPLOYED made the reservation with his credit card. Just like our situation the ignorant customer representative said the confirmation was not acceptable from another person making the accommodations in advance. Dollar rental should be ashamed of the policy they follow. I will never use dollar again and strongly recommend choose another option, even if it means paying more.
Absolutely nightmarish customer service if anything goes wrong. I returned my vehicle two days BEFORE my contract, due to a fender bender, and this company continually harasses me telling me I still have the car. I have spent hours back and forth with their various “departments,” who are apparently incapable of communicating with one another. A complete disgrace. No one making decisions at this company deserves their position.
Don't use Dollar and don't reserve through third party is what I've learned from all this. Put a $436.71 down payment on a Ford Fiesta rental two months in advanced and was only supposed to pay the other $214.31 when picking it up. Get to the airport and not a single person from Dollar was there. The line had plenty of people already waiting but not a single one of the companies employees were there to help any of us and instead we had to go through one employee at Hertz who probably had zero idea what she was doing because she's having to go through a different company. It apparently doesn't matter that I showed her my email confirming that I had a car rental because instead I got roped into signing a contract that charged me $547.81 when I returned the car, not counting the $436.71 down payment. On top of that, my confirmation email from Dollar Car Rental THEMSELVES says I ordered a "Chevrolet Spark or similar." How is that anywhere close to a Ford Fiesta? When I finally got my receipt and could get my car all I was told was "Level 4" and getting to level 4 I was greeted with not a single Dollar employee to be found. There was even a booth that had the company logo on it and looked to be where somebody should be standing to help customers out, but nope. No lights, nobody. After going up and down the parking garage multiple times I finally found somebody there that could help me. I'm not aware of what company she was working with but I know it wasn't Dollar. I showed her my receipt to which she took a quick look at it said "Compact car? Here, take the Kia Soul" and I ended up getting stuck with a Kia Soul for my 9 day trip. Reserve a Ford Fiesta 2 months in advance, end up in an entirely different contract, being overcharged to hell and back $991.52 in total for a 9 day trip!!, end up with a random Kia Soul and can't even talk to a single person FROM THE COMPANY. If this sounds like an experience you would love to have, then I highly recommend this company! I will never reserve from a third party and I will avoid Dollar Car Rental at all costs from this point further and urge everybody to do the same.
Save yourself the time! I’ve always rented with enterprise and thought I could save a few dollars but instead I left with no rental car and a Uber bill of $30. Checked on enterprise website for a better vehicle and same price just have to go today without a car. So to the actual issue I used my Apple credit card online and one person says you can’t use and another says you can. After talking with customer service I can use my Apple Card but it have to be the physical card. I go to the counter and spoke with a different lady, who then says I cannot use my Apple Card after I verified with three different people that I could. She then asked me to go back to the person I was first working with, and somehow that person allowed me to use the Apple Card. I’m very glad that I got this guy first because if I had this lady first, I would’ve never got past step one. I spent 2 hours at the airport rental center and left in a Uber. The crazy thing is they didn’t care. I’m like if this company doesn’t rent out cars you don’t get paid. Dollar is apart of Hertz and not them almost filing for bankruptcy. It all makes sense. I’m not mad just like most things if it’s cheap expect less than customer service. If you are traveling to a city with no family or friends don’t use them. Save a headache, annoyance, and spend the little bit of extra money. I just have to stick with enterprise. I blame myself for not being loyal to a brand that treats me right. *IMPORTANT* If you use a Apple Card make sure you use the physical card and card number for those that don’t have the luxury of spending the extra money. I learned the physical is the same as the virtual expect the last four which is under the additional card numbers section. *IMPORTANT* additionally there was no minivan available when I first looked at the lot and that’s what I reserved. I think is was a blessing that I didn’t get this car. Looking at the reviews a lot of people are having similar issues. There is no consistency and they just look for problems. I wasn’t required to get insurance on my vehicle.
Worst experience ever. At first they didn’t have my car that I reserved, Second, I got an SUV witch cost way more money to filling up with gas. Third, 4 miles after leaving San Antonio Airport with the SUV gas drops below full line, witch that tells me the tank was not completely full….. Fourth, SUV started Shaking really bad at 65miles per hour. These company literally is Sucks…. From returning staff to 2 of the Managers seated at the Hertz outside station. They didn’t really care about my issue that I had at all. Pay a little extra and go with something else. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!
The lady at the counter tried to nickel and dime us! Being obscure with answers to questions she obviously knew the answers to! Tried to entice us into an upgrade with “you’ll get “Apple play” with the bigger vehicle upgrade! The car we got into had it. Made it sound like it didn’t! Don’t fall for their technique
Do not rent here, there are plenty of options. I reserved my car 6 weeks prior to arrival. When we arrived to pick up our car the guy at the counter asked if we wanted the insurance, we declined. He proceeded to tell us that Texas state laws have different requirements than Colorado where we are from which is why we needed it. I told him if it's a requirement then I don't know why I'm being asked if I want it or not. I told him if it wasn't a requirement then I didn't want it but if it was state law then there's nothing I can do about it. After getting our final bill I realized we were charged for the insurance. I called the customer service department and I was told because I signed and agreed at pick up then they could only refund half. Sounds like fraudulent practices to me.
Horrendous experience. First, the tried to give me an electric vehicle without letting me know that the insurance I paid for in advance would not cover it. Why? Not sure, but it was non refundable. So I had to pay $48 extra for a gas car. That would be fine if it weren’t for the fact that after waiting an HOUR in line at the counter because they had one employee for dozens of people, I had to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes to actually pick up the car.
We booked a minivan for our vacation to San Antonio. My husband took and Uber from the hotel to pick up the car and left me and four kids at the hotel. They wouldn’t let him take the minivan because his drivers license is cracked. He had to go find a different rental car company and we ended up with an SUV that is smaller than what we needed. We had to put one of the backseats down to get all of our bags in the car so I am currently sitting on the floor between the second row of seats. They ruined our vacation. Unbelievable.
